Any music in New England Oct 2014?

Travelling with my wife for the first time to USA in October.

We are having some days in New York and then having just under a couple of weeks travelling round New England. I think we have a car for that period too.

Am I likely to find any music?

Are there any places where we might get a chance to sing a song somewhere? Do such things as sessions and singarounds exist in the same way they do in the UK?

contact bat goddess for Portsmouth, NH shanty sings.

Every Monday there should be shanty sings in Glouster, MA.

Charley Noble can also guide you for what's going on near Maine.

Connecticutt has folk clubs & concerts, along with NEFFA - the New England Folk Festival Assoc.

yeah... just type NEFFA into goggle and go into their calendar - you'll get hits for all over the Boston area.

New York & New Jersey have things going on as well, they have a calaendar, www.folkmusicny.org/

Dear Nick,
Here is a start at listings for Maine. None of the listing sites are all-inclusive, so do keep asking and looking:

http://www.mainesongwriters.org/open-mics-in-maine/ lists the following-
"Open mics come and go, so check with the venue for current information" (preferred music types will vary.) **Links below.

Lots of folk music in the small state of Rhode Island. Do websearches for Stone Soup Coffeehouse Pawtucket, Blackstone River Theatre Cumberland, Lily Pads Music Peace Dale, Common Fence Music Portsmouth, Sandywoods Music Tiverton. If you come to Stone Soup, I'll probably be there.

Check out The Mondadnock Folklore Society for dances, sessions, and concerts in southwestern NH and southern VT, Note there are shapenote sessions as well.

Portsmouth, NH has trad sessions at The Press Room every Friday night from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Third Saturday of the month is a shanty/sea music sing. There's an Irish session every Wednesday evening at Blue in Portland, Maine, and singers seem welcome.
