New Song sessions Cardiff

Announcing a couple of new folk song sessions in central Cardiff, hosted by Hamish Currie.

On third Mondays in August (18th), September (15th) and thereafter from November at The Goat Major The Goat Major, 33 High Street, CF10 1PU (phone 02920 337161). Starting at about 8pm, this will be an informal round-the-room session, totally acoustic, where all musical forms are welcome, but especially folk (traditional and "in-the-tradition") and participative (e.g. choruses and refrains). Bring your instruments of choice, although expect quite a lot of unaccompanied stuff, too.

And on fourth Tuesdays in August (26th), September (23rd) and thereafter from November at The City Arms The City Arms, 10-12 Quay Street (phone 02920 641913).

Both venues are "proper" pubs serving an excellent range of hand-pulled beers and suchlike and both a short stroll from Cardiff Central train station, up towards the castle.

For latest news, check out Hamish's website at Hamish's Cardiff Song Sessions and/or e-mail him at mailto:hamish.currie@ymail.com

Shame,
The first 'Third Monday' clashed with the World Sci-Fi con in London.
Might be able to pick up future events though.

Interesting choice of dates, as there will be occasions (roughly one month in 7) when the fourth Tuesday will be the night after the third Monday. Is this two-nights-in-a-row planned for?

Both pubs are highly recommended!

Cheers
Nigel

Ahah! So you are Splott Man! I claim my £10.

btw, Nigel, that won't happen until September 2015. We'll have plenty time to figure out the appropriate course of action before then!

Then quarterly, December 2015 (Pub closed?) and March 2015.

Strange how our calendar works!

Hi Mr Red

The Dinas Powis Session has discontinued.
The Blue Dragon open mike has moved, I believe, to The Mackintosh Institute, Roath, Cardiff. But I'm not certain.

Cheers

Thanks, Mr Cresby, sir. (I'm Hamish who dances enthusiastically but imprecisely at Banbury, Towersey et al...)

Fine session last night: thank you all, Cris, Jude, Jane, John, Anne, Terry, Nick and those who I forgot - and many of the pub punters who seemed to enjoy it, too.

No sessions in October: next one at The Goat Major Monday 17th November

Update: my Cardiff contract has come to an unexpectedly early end so I'll be handing over the stewardship to the lovely and very capable Sue Lay. She'll be running the December one on Monday 15th at The Goat Major and thereafter. The City Arms ones will be dropped at least for the short term. See Sue's pages for her contact details. I'll keep my page up to date for the next several months.

Just to say that the third Monday sessions are still cracking on. This week it was at a new venue, 29 Park Place. An upstairs room: really very nice and perfect for the purposes. Carrying on into 2016 in the best of health! It was delightfully almost but not quite too full for its inaugural first meeting in the new premises. Just near the museum, which seems rather appropriate :-)

is 29 Plas-y-Parc CF10 3BA a public place or a private house? White or redbrick?

Seeing the link on Facebook mentioning the evening, it would seem to be part of the pub: 29 Park Place
