From: Mo the caller I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but is her pension based on her own contributions, in which case I guess it would stay the same? If it's inherited or topped up from a previous partner's contributions then maybe it would be based on yours instead. Here you are, you figure it out. There's a freephone number 0800 731 7898 so why not talk to them - you can hide your phone number if you don't want them to know who is speaking. Of course if your pension comes from a different State, then I have no idea at all. |

Seeking advice is the best solution. Another more prosaic solution is to opt for a "Hand Fasting" rather than any civil binding ( with legal consequences ). If there are issues with ownership of property they can be addressed outside of the "ceremony". It is a solution if there are no religious or family obstacles to it. I 'phoned that number (0800) and spoke (we both did !) to an advisor ,and it appears that Nicky won't lose any of the "inherited" pension from her late husband.So now we are looking for venues ; Stanway and Postlip are both nice,but we are not THAT well off ! Might have to say our vows AND have a reception on board MV Conway Castle on the river Severn ; maybe at Upton Folk Festival ? At least we'd be guarantees a crowd & some music / dancing (Mr Red !). |

It say this about your partner being able to inherit your contributions record to top up a pension "If you die while they are under state pension age, they will lose this right if they remarry or enter into a new civil partnership before they reach state pension age." And this about a divorced partner "You may be able to use the national insurance contribution record of your ex-spouse or ex-civil partner to help increase your basic state pension if you are divorced or if you have dissolved your civil partnership. This won't affect your ex-spouse or ex-partner's basic state pension. If you remarry or form a new civil partnership before you reach state pension age, you lose this right. " From these I would guess that since you are both already claiming State Pension your pension will not be affected. But don't take my guess - ring that freephone number and find out. |

We had an interesting view of Chester, a pleasant meal that didn't break the bank. And then a barn dance the following evening. Quite a weekend. Hope you enjoy your day too. |
