Sorry: off topic: Sabine Baring Gould: can anyone tell me the correct pronunciation of his first name? Say-been, Say-bine, Sabb-een, Sabb-ine, something else???

I don't think Torrington Ringers is in Songs of the West - perhaps mistaking it for The Bellringing - which is!
Torrington Ringers is digitised with the whole of the rest of Baring-Goulds collection - try The Full English website.

A song called THE RINGERS OF TORRINGTON TOWN has been posted in the thread Lyr Req: Bellringing.

It is pronounced Say Bin - that advice comes from the family (the name is still used in the present generation).

SB-G's revision of the song is that given above from 'English Minstrelsie'. You can find the original manuscript record in the 'Full English' collection - a search for 'Torrington Ringers' will bring up a set of words and music (Ref SBG/1/3/177) - her's a blue clicky
Torrington Ringers

This text is quite legible by SB-G's standrads - but if you can't make it out give me a shout and I'll send you a transcript.
