29 Sep 14 - 01:09 PM (#3664489) Subject: Chord Req: req: I Used To Call Her Baby chords From: GUEST,Martoons Hi all, I've been playing around with 2 Dallas String Band tunes. i've figured out the chords for 'Chasin Rainbows' but have become stumped by 'I Used To Call Her Baby'. I've found a copy of sheet music from 1919 but it doesn't have chord diagrams and I can't read music. With my limited ability it sounds like a combination of C-F-A and G but I can't for the life of me find the correct placement of the chords. Can someone help me figure these out. |

Even if you can't read music, you can see that the notes move up and down the scale a lot. (For chords, you want music which mostly goes from space to space or from line to line.) And when you get to the chorus, the music is bristling with sharp and flat signs. It is moving up and down by half-steps, which are even worse. Why not make up a new tune? |

The tune is very simple and the harmonic progression is, at heart, pretty basic - but the sheet music is very densely packed with chords which include a fair few passing notes, and it all looks and sounds more complex than it has to be. In passing, I note it's the reverse of the English coin minted by Vesta Victoria... "I used to think that he was my young man. He used to call me his little Mary Ann. But mother caught his eye and they got married on the sly - Now I have to call him Father!" |
