I have bought a SW ticket hoping that I can attend..it sort of depends on catching a flight to ireland from somewhere nearby..i have some british airways miles thatgot me a very cheap ticket last year...sw is great because you can switch around. should be a lot of fun to combine trips and saves time in the long run. anyway, mystic is great fun and I hope to talk people into doing something similar in PNW USA.

You should be able to fly to Ireland from Bradley near Hartford and Logan in Boston. There is a push to get flights from Providence but that hasn't started yet. Flights from Providence to Germany started recently. From Mystic Providence the airport's really in Warwick, south of Providence) would be easiest, so it's a shame they haven't started yet.

Eek, sorry for the blank above. I was trying to scroll and my finger landed on Submit. I was going to write, "Hooray for you and retirement!"

I don't see why 2015 should be any more mystic than, say, 1945.

i am going to need help figuring out airports etc. probably should put below the line...i am trying to get a british airways/air lingus flight from east coast...have round trip to and from providence rhode island on the advice of someone..i can change sw tickets easily if necessary.

i am sure i went to hartford ct airport before and was stunned by how it had absolutely no food there..but in reading reviews it talks about a mcdonald's etc...maybe i went to another airport? there was nothing there at all..quite tiny airport..

so I guess no BA/AL flights from providence..am checking hartford. would like to go from mystic straight to ireland, return to east coast, straight to portland...any travel tips welcome. need to use 25,000 BA miles..got me a $200 ticket to Eire last year.

Are you a member of AAA? Their travel agents would help you, and there are no fees for members.

Depending on when you plan to arrive in Prov, I might be able to bring you from the airport to Mystic, but I'll want to check into my room well before Thursday evening's concert.

I won't leave Mystic until after Sunday afternoon's concert ends. Flights from the northeast US are overnight flights, and you'll need time to get to whatever airport you use and allow plenty of time to check-in and go through security, allowing for any delays. You might consider staying in Mystic Sunday night. I don't usually stay on Sunday night, but I would if we shared a room that night only. I'd make you crazy if we shared for more than one night.

Some travel sites look like they are getting ready to book tickets from Prov to Ireland for flights in March, but I don't know if that will really happen. If you can fly from Prov, I can get you to that airport on the Monday. If you fly out of Boston, I can get you to a Peter Pan motorcoach that will take you from RI right to the Boston airport, but it's not cheap. It's a for-profit company, not public transportation. Again, that would have to be on the Monday.

As far as flights from Hartford, I've never been to that airport and would be useless to advise you about it. I also won't drive there!

Are you in touch with the Milners? They might be able to tell you more. Or Geoff Kaufman might have some info. If you don't have his personal contact info, you can contact him through the seaport. Or maybe someone more helpful will add to this thread!

The schedule for the Friday and Saturday Mystic Seaport's Sea Music Symposium is given in the referenced thread.

I'm hoping to see lots of you there, both for the symposium and the festival.

I am trying to make it happen and there are only two obstacles..one is there is a lot going on at work right now and two is sheer shear?? shere??? schere? finances. I gave up on trying to combine this with a trick to Ireland. Thank heavens for SW airlines and changing schedules at will. Might go to a couple of places in New England...

I have a motel booked at Econolodge in Mystic..would like to split although it is only one queen...could upgrade room or i could take a rollout bed. I mean to share with female only.

I got the salmon cd spring run out at folklife. I sold out my entire short run plus had to give a few to people. did not even give to all people on cd yet and i do not have one for myself even. it was too close to the wire. i am trying to get same person or someone else to run off enough for mystic. i hope to sell some there surreptiousidkdkdkdly to cover some some expenses. anyway, trying to piece it all together.

mg had all sorts of transportation problems getting to Mystic. I hope her trip home was easier.

I had a wonderful time. The songs, of course, were wonderful. The papers presented at the symposium always interest me. And the late-night sings and church sing are always glorious. I have only recently begun trying to lead songs. I led one Friday night, one Saturday night, and one Sunday morning at the church sing even though my whole body shook each time. Hearing people join in on the chorus just about overwhelms me. Jeff Warner moderated the church sing. I have sung along with him many times. When people sang along with me it was awesome, and then I realized that the voice coming from the stage behind me was his! Jeff Warner sang along with me!

it was great...transportation was a huge problem..actually going back as well but not as bad. three nights in airports...but at least the planes did not crash. what you might expect christmas eve in a minnesota blizzard rather than fine summer days.

anyway, loved the festival...missed the late night singing that went on till four...would have loved to have gone. also i guess i missed the symposia except for the Mendahalen????? chanty singers....wonderful performers as always. Loved Janet's songs. We went to a great lunch ..was it just yesterday? Day before?

Went to sell my brand new beloved salmon cds (off premise of course) and found a large number were corrupted somehow. not happy camper but I have adjusted my attitude...gave a lot out. will have new duplicator vendor soon.

Thanks for the kind words, mg. I also enjoyed lunch and a chance to talk when I wasn't driving with my attention badly divided. I've played the salmon cd several times and it seems okay, but I've always played it while driving-with that divided attention. I need to sit down and listen with no distractions.

Dinner with you, Jon, and Laura was fun, too.

It was great to see Don Sineti back on his feet and hear his voice again. And hearing Marc Bernier sing Ol' Man River as a tribute to Don--oh, my! I'm glad you got a chance to sing in the closing concert, and Charlie, too.

Another highlight for me came when I led a song during the church sing and realized that in addition to all the people in the pews who sang along, the voice coming from the stage behind me was Jeff Warner's. Jeff singing along with me after all the times I've sung along with him!

chantylass...was it you who mentioned roger williams of rhode island..i am descended from one...all names match up except perhaps his wife..will have to check. born 1602 i think came to rhode island 1636....williams are so confusing in my tree...a williams married a williams not too long ago and their trees combine at some point..then another one farther back and one way way back. not as bad as the stewarts though.
