The first line as I understand it from the Sean Keane concert we saw last year i:

in a quiet darkened corner, in a bar outside the town.

I served hom with his order, he paid me and said Hi.
My name it is Jerzy from Gdansk. (Pronounced Yertsey)

Then one cold November morning in the year of zero four.

Pat Coyne who plays guitar for Sean normally plays in open D or DADGAD and the chords are basicaly D, G and A with an F#m and Em thrown in on the the run from D to G. I finger pick the song in DADGAD so i dont know what it would sound like for a strummer in concert tuning.

"Jerzy" is pronounced YEAHzhee, zh like the French j. As you may have guessed, it is the Polish equivalent of George.

Gdansk (or even Gdańsk) - no English rhyme for that. The shipyards there are not quite as cozy as they may seem in a homesick emigrant's memory.

Jerzy is quite different pronounciation. It should have be written as JACEK, it's Polish given name. Check this out:
