28 Nov 99 - 09:41 AM (#141684) Subject: Hard Hit From: Doctor John The 30 year old book "Hard Hit Songs for Hard Hit People" has been just republished as a soft back. Lomax, Guthrie, Seeger, Silber, Steinbeck: those names are enough to make it worth buying. This is the only collection I've come across where I don't know 90% of the songs already. Well worth a look at, if only for the photographs. Dr John |

28 Nov 99 - 11:54 AM (#141703) Subject: RE: Hard Hit From: Tiger I got one of these a few years ago, a library DISCARD - can you believe it? Originally c1967, Oak Publications. BTW, it's Hard HITTING (not HIT), for those who are looking for it. These aren't happy songs, but important, nontheless. Nice pictures. Song notes by Woody, transcriptions by Seeger. Forward by John Steinbeck. It's from a 1941 publishing project that was scuttled because of WWII, reassembled in 1967. It would be at home in any collection. |

28 Nov 99 - 11:57 AM (#141705) Subject: RE: Hard Hit From: lloyd61 Just order a copy of the book. I found it interesting that it is published by the University of Nebraska Press. The University of Nebraska has reprinted many old books and manuscripts. They must have a Extensive Library. It would be fun to visit the University some day. Thanks again. |
