Lyr Req: The Lacemaker's Song

I'm a returner to folk singing, and am brushing the rust off a number of songs in my repertoire. I remember the tune and bits of most of my songs, and can find words to fill in the rest, while also researching them online, including YouTube. However, one in particular eludes me. I must have liked it enough to want to learn it, but I cannot recall either words or tune, and cannot find it in my books, or anywhere online, including the VWML. It's incredibly frustrating and disappointing.

It's called the Lacemaker's Song.

The English Folksinger, Stubbs and Richards, p11. VWML definitely has a copy and it should be indexed there.

(Sing to "Sweet Betsy from Pike")
John Haefner Lyrics and Chords

Come all you bold bachelors merry and free
If you want to live happy be ruled by me
If you want to live happy all the days of your life
You must take a lacemaker to be your sweet wife

Lacemakers rise early in morning b'time
And do their odd jobs before the sun shines
And then they sit down to their pillows complete
I love to see lacemakers work it so neat

They all get together in the sunshiny day
Their pillows they shine like the blossoms in May
Their fingers are lithesome and their bobbins are small
And now I have told you the truth of it all

That is from

Found with a Google of

If you want to live happy all the days of your life

which was found on a sound sample.

The great servant girl she runs down the hall

Great holes in her stockings, no shoes on at all

Great holes in her stockings scarce a rag to her back

So take the lace maker, it is all that you lack

Verse 3

Recorded by Fred Hamer from Mrs Robinson, Wootten, Bedfordshire, in the 1960s. The 3 verses above have minor differences from the version in English Folksinger. The tune is indeed 'Villikins'.
