20 Apr 15 - 11:08 AM (#3703158) Subject: BBC: When Coal Was King From: Peter K (Fionn) This quirky BBC documentary had anothere airing a few days ago and will be available on BBC iPlayer for a couple of weeks. In case that is not available beyond the UK I'll give a link to Youtube, where it has been posted in four parts, starting here: When Coal Was King. Some of the social commentary stuff from a BFI curator etc is a bit nerdy, but it's a chance to see some of the amazing work of the Pitman Painters, hear a song or two from Richard Thompon and Ewarn MacColl, and even see Paul Robeson singing Joe Hill in a Scottish colliery canteen. And for me it was the first time I've been ablee to put a face to the voice of A L Lloyd. |
