Your Thread should have read "SOUTHERN" festivals.....

Why, picky guest Betsy?
It's a list of the festivals Sally's going to be at.

She'll have put UK so our American cousins don't drop in hoping for lovely freshly squeezed lemonade over the pond to no avail.

Don't think there's a need to narrow it down any further.
You can always start your own thread for festivals you're attending, and call it what you like :)

See you at Upton and Chippers, Sal- with brilliant suinshine! :@)

Opened this thread to see where people would be, expecting a wide demographic. All I got was a advert for a lemonade concession and southern folk festivals.

Aug 24 - 28 - Whitby Folk Festival ( a first for me)
Sept 9 - 13 - Linlithgow Folk Festival

Plenty others up here that I've missed plus some one-day events and concerts, including Edinburgh Festival Fringe which has a lot of folk events. And I'll be playing a few ceilidhs as well.

Tatie - what a marathon!
Having been to festivals booked and not booked, I think I prefer the latter. No programme to construct, no PA to worry about, no sound checks, no time constraints. There are easier ways to earn money.

I know it would be difficult to run a festival if everybody thought the same - but

Maybe this should be a separate thread. To be booked or not to be booked?

Bob Knight

If you only go to festivals you are booked at why even respond to this thread.

Mind you Ray Padgett is almost as bad - do you really mean Ray you would not be at Whitby if you were not doing something?

Been going to Whitby 45 years and ran with John Booker and Jude Knight and all the lovely singers, the fringe singarounds in the Cutty/Tap and Spile/Station for very many years ~still like a sing/play at Whitby wherever I can but running the Con club some nights (the Wffest folk club) and compering odd concerts keeps me up to date with the "young thrusters"

So far this thread seems to be only folk festivals, but my range of appreciation is broader than that. This year I hope to attend two local events (Portland, OR, US). The upcoming week of July 4th is the Annual [sponsor's name blank} Waterfront Blues Festival - always a mixed bag but chock full of goodies that add Zydeco, Gospel and other variations to the blues theme.

Then a half year later, in late winter, is the Old Timey Music Festival. This year was my first attendance but it was so terrific that I plan to become a regular. And the name might be a bit misleading because in addition to hearing modern musicians doing their interpretations of old songs, there are also performances of location specific traditional music by people who grew up hearing the music as well as becoming players themselves, learning from their elders.

Well, this is starting to look like a collapsed summer from Knockers (the summer solstice) to Whitby!

Sandwich appears to have morris dancing, concerts, and diddly - but no song sessions.

There don't appear to be any song sessions at Bewl Toe in the Water

A lovely private party has had to reschedule

I cannot establish that the Medway Hopper Fest is running at all this year

Sidders requires the planning of a military expedition and the dedication of a whole week (maybe next year!)

It's SUCH a mish finding a decent song session at Broadstairs and camping is hard sensibly to arrange.

Deal is dead.

WTF to do in the South of England?

Moira Furnace August 14-16
Bo Peep Cider Festival September 11-13 (new)
Banbury October 9-11 (possibly just me)
Oxjam, Bury St Edmunds October 24-25
Bedworth November 27-29
