2014 Obit: Margaret Palmer (Exmoor)

I hear from Jim Causley that Exmoor traditional singer Margaret Palmer died last September.
I recall her fondly with her occasional attendances at The Volunteer during Sidmouth FolkWeek and Jim's Devon concerts with her stories, monologues and high-pitched songs such as Bampton Fair.
There are few recordings of her songs, one being the Pennymoor Singaround CD recorded in 2013.
It is to be hoped that a better informed appreciation of her life can engrace the pages of English Dance & Song and/or Folk Music Journal in due course.

She was certainly a character and a highly entertaining and enthusiastic singer. I have a CD of her recordings somewhere. I am sure a lot of the Devon folk singers have a lot more information about her.

Another good singer passes. I have added her name to the "In Memoriam" thread. My condolences to all who know and love her.

RIP

Peter
