29 Nov 99 - 10:16 PM (#142413) Subject: Saint Brendan's Voyage From: Chris Seymour I heard this Jimmie Driftwood song numerous times on folk radio years ago but never noted down who recorded it. My bandmates have just had a baby named Brendan, and I want to get them a recording of the song -- any leads? (I looked it up in DigiTrad, which lists words [helpful] but has no recording info.) |

30 Nov 99 - 09:46 AM (#142587) Subject: RE: Saint Brendan's Voyage From: jeffp Mick Moloney and Eugene O'Donnell recorded it on their "Uncommon Bonds" CD. It's on Green Linnet Records, #GLCD 1053. (I just happen to have it here with me, can you tell?) It's a great CD, with a number of excellent musicians, including Norman and Nancy Blake, Seamus Egan, Liz Carroll, and many others. Interestingly, they call it "St. Brendan's Fair Isle." I've met Mick at the Augusta Heritage Center in West Virginia, where he hosts Irish Week, and I can wholeheartedly recommend any of his CDs. |

Here is another song about the voyage of St Brendan:
Now as darkness fills my sail
Now I will set sail
Sail the seven seas
In retracing his pattern there
