Not *my* youth, by a damn sight. What's it about?
Why not compose a Mudcat anthem?

It would go something like...

There isn't a God.
Oh yes there is.
There isn't a God.
Oh yes there is.
There isn't a God...

That isn't Folk.
Oh yes it is.
That isn't Folk.
Oh yes it is.
That isn't Folk.
Oh yes it is...
Oh yes there is

How about The Sad Cafe?

Oh, it seemed like a holy place,
protected by an amazing grace,
and we would sing right out loud
the things we could not say.
We thought we could change this world
with words like love and freedom.
We were part of the lonely crowd
inside the sad cafe.

1) Neat article on music and its use to help win wars.

http://parlorsongs.com/issues/2004-4/thismonth/feature.php

2) The 1961 'Ghost Town' may have made its way across the Atlantic, but it did so unbeknownst to me.

There are different themes for different parts of it. For situations like Bert suggested, I suggest Fuedin' Banjos, preferably the Lester Flatt version, or Don Reno's version would work as well. Of course, some of the arguments can seem to bear a similar feeling to the name of this song.

Of course, other times, this site makes me feel like a song by Mac Wiseman, called I Like Good Blue Grass; a gem which is sadly not on Youtube.

Of course, once you get on here, you can often feel yourself singing classic by Flatt and Scruggs: Loafer's Glory

And the music here is always Music (Country Style), such as sung.

When you first get on the site and leave a comment, someone comes along and says, Come On In and make yourself at home. Whatever happens, to you and me it will always be The Old Home Place, as sung by The Dillards. Once you get there you're liable to Stay All Night.

Now, by this point, you may realize your addiction. You may even say, "I Ain't Wastin' Time no more!" Maybe you're Lookin' For a Reason to stay here. But, despite your best intentions, You Ain't Goin' Nowhere.

Sorry for the long and rambling message. Now I must say, "I'm Movin' On."

In all seriousness, though, I have no clue.

Given our average age how about "I just don't look good naked anymore" (Kendall's version, naturally).

"Mudcat Blues" by Roy Howell. Some nice slide guitar playing and a funky beat.

Or "Mudcat" by Hoodoo Drugstore - nice Cajun feel.

As Chris Smither is touring The UK at present, his Train Home would be fitting..

I don't think I see
There's anything for me
In visions of the past or the ever after.
Now is what can be
All the rest is wait and see
Those prophets they don't hear that cosmic laughter.

Other than that, any folk song that has been written and copyrighted...

Another one bites the dust?

Should I stay or should I go?

How about

"Where have you been all day, Randall, my son?
"Where have you been then, my handsome young man?"
"I've been surfing Mudcat, mother.
"I've been surfing Mudcat, mother.
"Make my bed soon, for I'm--"

Okay, somebody take it from here. . . .

...weary with folksongs and fain would lie doon.

Where's your guitar, Randall my son?
Where's your Martin, my handsome young man?
I've been trading on Mudcat, mother.
I've been trading on Mudcat, mother,
Make my bed soon for I'm weary from Mudcat, etc.

Why have you a banjo, Randall my son?
I brought you up better, my handsome young man!
Get out of my house! Mother, don't...ARGH! OUCH!
Okay, okay, I'm leaving!

There's plenty of fodder for a mudcat anthem in "Old Dad" or "Jawbone":

Muscat walk, Muscat talk,
Muscat eat a-with a knife and fork,
Hung my Mudcat on the fence,
Ain't seen nothin' of my Muscat since.

Joe, please make that "Mudcat" above.

Sorry! I must remember to check things even if I know I typed them correctly.

But it wouldn't stay away....."
