I was just reading some of the old birthday threads that Tom started for me -- nice to read him again wishing me happy birthday. And 'Spaw, and katlaughing, and Barry Finn... Last year I had a LOT of trouble with my birthday -- first one in 34 years that Tom wasn't sharing with me. Couldn't even think about it without dissolving into a puddle of tears. Got together with friends, though, a few days before the date and sang our way into the night. That helped me face The Day a lot better. This year I didn't think I had any problem coming into my birthday. But yesterday, while definitely not feeling bad or sad or being depressed in any way, I still found myself tearing up at the damnedest things. Not bad -- just...odd. Jeri and I went to Newick's on Little Bay and I had a piña colada, small lobster stew and a calamari/Gulf shrimp combo plate. No room for dessert, but maybe today I'll buy some gooey birthday cake. Finished off the day with long phone calls with my sister in Milwaukee and a friend in Seattle. Never did get that threatened nap, but I guess I didn't need it. Thanks, everybody! Linn |
