Review: Bellowhead at Grassington

The first concert of their farewell tour! To be honest, when I bought the tickets no-one knew it was going to be their farewell tour but, hey, what the heck.

What superlatives can I use that have not already been done to death? Bellowhead were, well, Bellowhead in all their glory. The sound was very well leveled. The whole event was well organised. The support band (Louis Barabbas and the Bedlam six) were very enjoyable and completely different to the main act. My only slight niggle was it was an all standing event and my poor old knees were creaking a bit at the end of all that jigging about. Oh, and talking about jigging, why is it that the most flamboyant dancers are the ones with no apparent sense of rhythm? :-) Still, it detracted not one jot from a thoroughly enjoyable evening by one of the most accomplished and lively bands on the folk scene. I would say long may they run but, sadly, we are already aware of their not too distant demise.

So, long may their influence be felt and let us hope that someone just as good will pick up the baton soon.

Oh, and go to see them!
