28 Jun 15 - 11:37 AM (#3719535) Subject: Lyr Req: Hold the Lantern High From: GUEST,George Frampton I'm looking at possible songs recalling the UK fishing industry in times past. I heard someone - I think it was Barry & Ingrid Temple sing 'Hold the Lantern High' which the internet tells me was written by Steve Evans as an opener for Tom Haddway's play 'Bless Thee, Jackie Madison' and recorded by the band Crooked Oak in 1976. Any offers? |

21 Sep 15 - 05:04 AM (#3738683) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hold the Lantern High From: Dave Sutherland I have the LP of Crooked Oak on which the track appears but nothing at present on which to play it. Have you tried Googling Tom Hadaway or "God Bless Thee Jackie Madison" to see if the words are anywhere there? Otherwise I'll try for you one I acquire the means of playing the album. BTW Steve Evans lives out in Jamaica or somewhere like that these days but he is on Facebook. |

Guest# - here are the words I have: HOLD THE LANTERN HIGH Hold the lantern high lad, Hold the lantern high, Catch your daddy's eye laddie Catch your daddy's eye. ????????????, Many there must weep, Say a prayer for those who share The grief that they keep There's none but us to rue his loss, If he should not come home, They're safe in bed, and do not fuss, It's all the same to them Do not fear for you will hear The shout across the bay Whether far or near, they will not fear Your lantern lights the way Safe on shore he's home once more, To sea he'll soon return, Whether far or near, he will not fear, As long as lanterns burn. Cheers! |

(Thanks for the lyrics, btw.) I'll post this and go look further. |
