2015 Obit: Tony Slinger (Bristol caller, etc)

Just heard the news that Bristol caller and folk roots promoter died the other day... there's a note on fRoots facebook page.
Tony starting calling at an outdoor gig at Langford Somerset c 1978... I was in the band with some of the Blakeney Edwards family of Cheddar. Later he called for many local bands and put on amazing gigs at Yesterdays and elsewhere; a wide range from blues, African
(the Bhundu Boys) and 2 Mustaphas 3, Loudon Wainright III.
He'll be fondly remembered; he's left his enormous CD collection to Halsway Manor library.

Sorry to hear this.
I think that he once called with Blind Panic when we did a gig up nearer to Bristol than we normally covered. All seems a long time ago now.

Tony was a great influence on the folk world in Bristol and beyond. There are many more details to be found here:

I'm afraid my computer won't do blue clickys. I have tried....many times!

I have added Tony to the "In Memoriam" thread. As it says online, "He was a lovely bloke. He will be missed by all those who knew him."

RIP

Peter

Well known from Iron Acton folk club back in early 80s. So sad. Good wishes and love to all who knew him and his amazing work on the local folk scene.

So sad to hear this. Tony did in fact call a lot with Peeping Tom back in the 90s, and was MC at their 21st and 25th birthday celebrations, along with a star-studded cast of callers.

I first met him in 86/87 when I was managing Whippersnapper and he booked them for a gig in Bristol (Yesterdays I guess). We struck up a strong friendship based on a mutual love of music, and many a long hour was spent on the phone!!

So sorry I couldn't make the funeral, but I understand there is to be a memorial gig/hooley in the Autumn.

RIP old mate.

He also called for Dr. Bowser's Brown Bowel Oil Band of blessed memory, devised dances and designed the booklet for their LP "Not To Be Sniffed At".

A couple of clubs are likely to get "Jenny Kilbrides's Delight" thrown at them this week.
