Lyr Req: Load 'em and stack 'em

Hi

Am looking for some lyrics to a song about loading beans in a Japanese freighter, and can't find them anywhere on the net - so thought I'd try here!

The chorus (that I can remember) is:

Load 'em and stack 'em
You can't do it later
Load 'em and stack 'em
On a Japanese freighter
Load 'em and stack 'em
the hold's getting higher (?)
Load 'em and stack 'em
Till the Sun goes down

Any information about the song, who wrote it etc. would be good as well.

Cheers

Steve.

Sorry, Steve. I'd meant to add that there are a few other renditions of the song on YouTube near the one I linked to. I did a quick search and couldn't find lyrics online, but there should be enough on YT for you to gather what you need.

It was written by Jerry Cassault. You can hear Alison Underwood singing it with the Shellback Chorus on Alison's Myspace page

This recording is on Spotify:

LOAD 'EM AND STACK 'EM
As recorded by Lee Murdock (and others) on "Between Two Worlds" (2004).

CHORUS: Load 'em and stack 'em; you can't do it later.
Load 'em and stack 'em on a Japanese freighter.
Load 'em and stack 'em; the holds are gettin' higher.
Load 'em and stack 'em till the sun goes down.

1 Well, you work all day (Load them beans!)
To make your pay. (Load them beans!)
Oh, another pallet's comin' (Load them beans!)
Down into the hold so you gotta work on. CHORUS

2. Your hands are sore, (Load them beans!)
Your back even more, (Load them beans!)
But another pallet's comin' (Load them beans!)
Down into the hold so you gotta work on. CHORUS

3. Break away; break away! (Load them beans!)
Clear the way; clear the way! (Load them beans!)
Seven days a week, (Load them beans!)
From dawn to dusk so you gotta work on. CHORUS

4. She's filled to the top. (Load them beans!)
It's time to stop. (Load them beans!)
Oh, another freighter's comin', (Load them beans!)
So farten(?) up the hold and send 'em on their way. CHORUS TWICE

Any more info on Jerry Cassault? Where is he from?

A very nice addition to the shanty corpus, as Danny Spooner might have said.

In one of the lyric lines shown earlier the words are:

"So button up the hold and send her on her way"

There are a number of version of this song on YouTube but I believe I have the correct words for that last line of the last verse.

One of the YouTube clips is of Hoolie and the Polish group Sasiedzi
performing Load 'Em and Stach 'Em at the 2013 Mystic Festival. Am I correct in assuming that the guy who introduces the song is Jerry Cassault from the group Hoolie?

Just researching this for my U3A, and found the Good Old Boat magazine Newsletter October 2003 says in its Book Review section:

"Load 'em and Stack 'em," is the story of singer Jerry Casault's summer loading Japanese freighters with 100-pound bags of Michigan navy beans. The liner notes describe the backbreaking and dangerous work and the ultimate payoff for a very fit songwriter who used the money saved to backpack through Europe.
