Not only one of the foremost steel guitarists, he re-invented the instrument. Saw live once, with the Everly Brothers, but he played on lot of my favorite records, like this one.

Yes, definitely one of the greats. Did a very fine jazz album, too, with Lenny Breau, called Minors Aloud.

Yep, an incredible musician has passed. I still have his mind-blowing Redneck Jazz with Danny Gatton on red vinyl and Someday Soon is still one of the best recordings I've heard. RIP.

I have dug out the Minors Allowed album that Buddy and Lenny Breau made and am listening to it right nw. Next will be some John Hartford albums featuring Buddy's steel playing.

Wiki says Buddy passed on the 22nd. Other sources give the evening of the 28th and the morning of the 29th. No sources I have found give cause of death.

The Wiki article has been corrected to read 7/29/15. A few articles still say 7/28, but most articles coming out today say he died yesterday, 7/29/15. Still nothing about cause of death.

NPR's All Things Considered covered this sad news today. Fairly brief but nice interviews and samples of some of his playing.

Buddy Emmons was happy to work with Jazz, Folk and Rock acts when they came to record in Nashville.

He is the steel player on Judy Collins' "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" album including "Someday Soon".

He did about half of "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" with the Byrds, and was on albums by Paul Siebel, Steve Young, Joan Baez and (pretty sure) Bob Dylan.

Very sorry to hear this. Years ago, I ran into Mr. Emmons in a hotel bar at the Steel Guitar Festival here in St. Louis. He was a nice guy and very friendly. A great musician as well.
