Fleetwood Folk and Blues Weekend

Rising from the embers of the old Fylde Festival one of the organisers has arranged the following programme (and are to be heartily congratulated for doing so!. The substance of their email is shared with permission:

You will have all heard the sad and regretful news about the cancellation of the Fylde Folk'n'Roots Festival.
As a former Co-Director when I visited the venues to inform them of the sad news several of them wanted to continue to support an event which was very heartening.
After some serious thought and speaking to some of the customers, sponsors, staff and artists it was agreed that we would run a similar smaller scale event.
Some of you have already contacted me to say that you will still be attending and I thank you for your continued support, however I thought it only right to update the rest of our original supporters. As a local girl I am hoping that a smaller event will give the town something to build on in future years.
So here's what will be occurring.

They are doing an early bird discount ticket of £20 for both concerts so a saving of £3 per person (via the email address above).

Shaping up to be a good weekend!

Who are the 6 artists in the concerts?
Seems odd to say the is a charge for unnamed acts or have I missed something?

I wont be going for the concerts. I'll be going in the hope of finding some tunes sessions.

I was down as a volunteer steward for the original festival and am available for a few hours if needed in the new configuration. Mostly though I want to find some sessions.

The Fri night concert looks like (apart from Scolds Bridle) it should be called 'Anything But Folk'. These type of acts are why I didn't consider going in the first place.

I take your point LesB but if I'm there on Friday night I will probably be in the Mount Hotel for the Fleetwood Folk Club. That pub was the favourite for sessions last year and probably will be this year too.

Stanton, where are the best places for a music session likely to be? I've never found much at Fylde, but I have to say that I have either had a ticket and been mostly to concerts or been there with a dance team and never had the time to find a session.

Last year the Mount was the best pub for sessions. The Mount, if my memory serves me right, is on the junction of The Esplanade and Promenade road. It's a big old pub overlooking the sea.

It's on the map at the bottom of this page

There's plenty of space in the programme for impromptu sessions there.

Some of the old Fylde flavour will still be present in a more relaxed low key event.A few old Fylde favourites will be appearing at the Museum and elsewhere - including the Mount. Ron Baxter will be continuing with his annual heritage walk on Friday at 15.30 from the Museum main door. Anyone bringing the family may well be impressed with major seafront improvements around the Marine Hall/ Leisure Centre and the Euston Park has had a major makeover. The camping facility is certainly interesting with Farmer Parr's petting farm and the excellent Fylde Country Life Museum on site.
