I think it was called the cowboy carol. Also we sang a german carol called Stille, stille, Stille. If there is anyone who could provide the remaining lyrics I'd be beholding. |

This weekend we are travelling with the rugby team to an away match so I've added the words to our song sheets. Should be a great laugh trying to sing it after a few beers. Merry Christmas!! |

No novelty here, I heard it at school too, in GB, and only one year, not my form. But it has stuck in my memory for more than 30 years, and even in my Mum's. I've been seeking a "jolly, cowboy" version ever since I've been on the Internet (4 years), but at the most can only find really serious choirs, which I like for other carols, but not this one. I'm pleased though to have found the lyrics, so at least I can sing it to myself. Not being a sadist, I don't pass it on to anyone else, but I would if I had a nice version. Merry christmas to all. |

15 Dec 09 - 06:24 PM (#2789204) Subject: Lyr Add: THE THREE DROVERS (Wheeler/James) From: McGrath of Harlow From the other side of the world, Australia, here is an Australian "cowboys carol". They sang this one at a Carol Service I was at on Sunday in a Saxon built church that got turned into a barn for a few hundred years, so I looked around afterwards, and found it here. The Three Drovers Across the plains one Christmas night Three drovers riding blithe and gay, Looked up and saw a starry light More radiant than the Milky Way; And on their hearts such wonder fell, They sang with joy. 'Noel! Noel! Noel! Noel! Noel!' - * - The air was dry with summer heat, And smoke was on the yellow moon; But from the heavens, faint and sweet, Came floating down a wond'rous turn; And as they heard, they sang full well Those drovers three. 'Noel! Noel! Noel! Noel! Noel!' - * - The black swans flew across the sky, The wild dog called across the plain, The starry lustre blazed on high, Still echoed on the heavenly strain; And still they sang, 'Noel! Noel!' Those drovers three. 'Noel! Noel! Noel! Noel! Noel!' Words by John Wheeler. Music by William G.James, 1948. Here's where I found it - click there for the tune. |
