Songs to jog to

From: GUEST,Ottery

Hello mudcat. This is my first post here, though I've been checking the lyrics database for years and years.

A couple of weeks ago, finally getting tired of the impulse to bend over and clutch my heart half way up the stairs, I decided to take up jogging (slowly, on the spot) in the hope that this will make me a fitter ergo more worthy and beautiful person.

Listening to music while I jog I've found helps me to block out the memories of multiple humiliations experienced during school PE.

So far I've found that James the Rose (Steeleye) works quite well, since it's quite bouncy and is all about running awaaay.

Any more suggestions?

Thank you.

I found Quebecois music quite good. Strong rhythms and a good pace. Check out La Bottine Souriante.

There's a BPM freeware to calibrate your set list.

Fiddle tunes great because they often speed up... endorphin opp.

Cn band Flapjack.

My husband's running playlist is dominated by Wilson Picket, Chuck Berry and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

I like just about anything with enough banjos in it.

As a formerly fat, sick person, I am here to tell you that your plan will work. You don't have to run if you don't want to (or your body won't let you); a vigorous trot will do the job.

Don't jog. A brisk walking pace will do just fine without pounding your hip and knee joints.

Mix your cadence tracks to start off slow, peak and then cool down according to your routine.

Mardi Gras cadences

I would also highly recommend the C25K running programme to take you from the couch to running non-stop for half an hour. You can download podcasts (not very folky) from the NHS at http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx .

The Keel Row! It is, after all, a trot-past. I have used it to set my rhythm and speed for decades.

not to mention Moneymusk!

But for 30 minutes or more they might get a bit wearing!

When I get of my lazy fat a*** and get on the treadmill (due to arthritis I can't run) at the gym I like 4/4 beaty things such as Midnight Hour, Respect and such like. When....

Thanks very much for the suggestions, folk(ie)s, and thanks for the encouragement! I need it.

Like the suggestion of Quebecois music. I already have a CD of Le Vent du Nord. This would give me an excuse to get some more.

manitas,I fear the NHS podcast would be too upbeat for me, unless it's narrated by Marvin the Paranoid Android. Is Moneymusk a strathspey or a band?

Monymusk is a Strathpey. It is usually played either on fiddle or the pipes.

Thanks! I like strathspeys. I used to play them a lot in my youth. Other people had sex, I played strathspeys.

As played for a ride or trot past its more of a fling but in the link given it's definitely a strathspey. I do find it annoying the way pipe bands change tunes after once through only, the ear doesn't get a chance to develop an understanding of the arrangement.
