As the logs go rolling down the river,
Pierre goes rolling on and on,
this will be the last trip down the river,
for Pierre of the Saskatchewan

The British Library, Stanford University, and the University of Oregon have the sheet music, described thus:

PIERRE OF THE SASKATCHEWAN
Words and Music by Ira Schuster, Paul Cunningham, & Leonard Whitcup ©1941.

The lyrics below were printed in the Spokane Daily Chronicle, Nov. 22, 1941, page 8, column 3, under the heading "Songs of Long Ago" with the annotation "Sent in by Mrs. Stella Hendren, Kamish, Idaho."

PIERRE OF THE SASKATCHEWAN

When the logs come rolling down the river,
Pierre comes rolling on and on,
To Marie who's waiting all a-quiver
For Pierre of the Saskatchewan.

And beneath the whispering pine that shades her,
She lingers by the old sawmill.
Though he's miles away he serenades her,
And his voice echoes on from hill to hill.

"Hello-allo-allo-allo-allo, Marie.
My ship of logs is on its way."
"Hello-allo-allo-allo-allo," she answers.
"Promise you'll come back to stay."

Little does she know those logs will give her
A little home to gaze upon.
It'll be the last trip down the river
For Pierre of the Saskatchewan.
