Origins: 'Soft Kitty' from 'Big Bang Theory'

On the CBS "Big Bang Theory" TV show, Sheldon comically forces people to sing this song for him whenever he is sick. It turns out that it is a variation of a previous song, and I have seen an image of the old "music book" version below circulating on Facebook. The melody is listed there as being an "adapted English Folk Song". Does anybody have more info on the melody's origin in England?

The following was previously posted on "Mudcat" .....
"I thought I had posted this to the forum, but I can't find it now. It is the original song from an old Australian children's nursery song book that is "Warm Kitty" (which was adapted by The Big Bang Theory).

WARM KITTY
words Edith Newlan
tune Adapted English Folk

Warm kitty, soft kitty,
Little ball of fur,
Sleepy kitty, happy kitty,
Purr, purr, purr.

Under that song is:

By the fire pussy's lying,
Curled up fast asleep,
Leave your toys until tomorrow,
Hurry off to bed - quick."
