Assuming nobody claims they have altered it enough to copyright it?

Many traditional songs have been made into pop, rock, classical and just about every other genre.

Hell, the sum output from everybody from Tchaikivsky to Vaughan Wiiliams is based on traditional tunes, and Bob Dylan got plenty of ideas for songs after his time with Martin Carthy.

That's before we get to Thin Lizzy....

This:-

"Peg and Awl"

became this:-

"My oh My"

backing the hypothesis, and also illustrating the contribution of Messrs Lea and Holder to the folk tradition?

Never new Noddy liked Appalachian folk! Or did he perhaps hear some gospel?

There seems to be a great revival of 'Waly Waly' by classically trained singers at the moment, Alexander Armstrong to name but one, not an entirely pointless venture.

I always recognised Slade as being just within the margins of 'folk rock'...

It required my taking an old book into work to prove to some young guys that Scarborough Fair was NOT a pop song.

But other than give them your opinion, they weren't wrong Bill.

The song has been in the pop charts. If I'd been in the 100m hurdles, I'd be an athlete even if I tried saying I was a porn star running on my day off.
