Lyr ADD: Golden Lady by Lynn Baker

OK, Catters I got one for ya.

In a movie called The Trial of Billy Jack (1974) Lynn Baker has a scene where she sings a song for the character Jean (Dolores Taylor).

My future brother-in-law saw this movie with his mother and wants to sing it to her but...

The story goes that that the song was one Lynn actually wrote about Dolores Taylor, in thanks for her friendship, support, and influence. She intended it as a personal gift for Dolores, not for the movie. She sang it for Dolores at a party and Tom Laughlin (the writer/director/star) loved it and immediately wanted it in the film. They also say that Lynn's becoming so emotional that she was unable to finish the song was not scripted, Lynn just sincerely broke down before she got to the end. They tried several more times to get the whole thing but Lynn was crying too hard to continue, and in the end they felt the emotional impact was better anyway with Lynn's true response.

So in short, a complete version was never recorded or published because she couldn't finish the song without crying and never intended it for anything other than a gift for her friend.

I wanted to find what I could and transcribe and tab the song for him for Christmas.

I got the known lyrics as:

Golden Lady made of love
You gave so much to me
when I had nothing
I wanna give you something too
something of that of which a am made
as your love came from you

Golden Lady full of hope
you showed me that as well
when I had nothing
I wanna give you something too
something of the dreams only I can see
as hope was seen by you

you are my sister
you gave me friendship
you are my mother
I am reborn
You are my teacher
you taught me ______

...

I'm getting the key of G. G to C. D and maybe an Am in there?

So... Anyone got more info or better chords?

How interesting, Max. I bet someone comes through for you before I'll have a chance to look into it. This will, at least, refresh it for the night owls.

Merry Christmas, Max. Thank you.
Maeve

Well Max, I was sure you'd have heard from someone by now. I thought the last word of verse three looked like "love" in the movie clip. Perhaps you and your future brother-in-law could round it out with one more verse- if you think it necessary.

IMDB says that this lady is now a practising psychiatrist. Surely she should be tracable.

living
When I was cold
you made me warm

Golden Lady full of peace
You gave me that as well
When I was suffering
I want to give you something too
Something of the joy
that I now? feel
As joy was given by you.

Are you still looking for the actual lyric, Max. If so, I can find them. The ones here are not quite right.

Hi, Lyricist -
We're ALWAYS looking for the best transcriptions we can get, even on threads that are twenty years old. Please post 'em.

I put my headphones on and watched the video. Here's what I got:

Golden Lady made of love
You gave so much to me
when I had nothing
I wanna give you something too
something of that of which I am made
as your love came from you

Golden Lady full of hope
you showed me that as well
when I had nothing
I wanna give you something too
something of the dreams only I can see
as hope was seen by you

you are my sister
you gave me friendship
you are my mother
I am reborn
You are my teacher
you taught me ______

The only thing I could add, is the "I" in the first verse. That last word could be "something" or "loving" - she just mouths the words.

Here you go, Max. You have it all right up to the middle of the bridge so I’ll start there.

You are my teacher
You taught me living
When I was cold
You made me warm

Golden Lady made of peace
Your kindness set me free
When I was trembling
I want to give you something too
Something of the joy I’m feeling
Something of my love for you
Something of my love for you

Lynn thanks you for your interest and regrets she didn’t know about your search back in 2015. I have her permission to post this.

It is in G with a D minor thrown in, but transitions to C during the bridge and then it has a G minor. How that happens she is not quite sure anymore.

She also says that the story of the song, as you told it, is true.

It's a beautiful song. I have the soundtrack LP (packed away somewhere), but I wish it were available digitally so that I could add it to my playlist, but I understand that Ms Baker wanted it to be for Delores Taylor only.
