BS: Officially retired

I been semi retired for a few years but still did software consulting. I am sick of the corporate rat race so officially hung up my spurs. Now to pocket watches and fish and grand babies with an ooccasional publication on some pet theory. Oh yes

One of the first things that dawns on you is that you can't comprehend how you ever had time to go to work at all!

Happy filling those extra hours... for many years...

I've always farted a lot, and I got a smelly dog when I retired, but no way in hell am I going to start smoking anything at my age!

Enjoy retirement, dude - I hope you find it's the best job you've ever had, just as I did!

What I have seen of my fathers retirement and my own is that there is the special project that never has the energy required or the wakeful time to accomplish.

This need not be but it is a trend far too often.

All in all retirement in the country keeps you most fit.

Enjoy

I retired in 2007 also...Sept. 30. Yet I dream of working at least once a week. In these dreams I am either selling (which I did wholesale for 34 years), or discussing sales with my manager. The funny thing is that I never make any sales in these dreams. As I was rather successful in my job, I guess the dream is a way to tell me not to go back. Still-in-all, it's rather humiliating not to make any dream sales.

Its rather like when I used to sleep sans clothing that I would be doing non-sexual things stark nekkid in dreamland. Thank god I never wore a Maidenform bra, for those of you who remember their 1950s/60s 'I dreamed...' advert promos.

I'd best not mention that I tried retirement for just over a year but got tempted back into the rat race last summer. I would say I never looked back, but I haven't the ruddy time to turn my head anyway...

I'm envious of anyone who retires and enjoys it. Good luck mate.

I can't decide if I'm retired or just unemployed... whatever it is, I started doing it 3 years ago now, and haven't had a chest pain or a major suicidal depression since.

House doesn't look any neater, there are even more things to do on my 'to do' pile, but I sure as hell don't miss the commute or the ingratitude, the bullying or being taken advantage of.

Enjoy your days, make more memories and pass them on to the grandbabies.

Naaawww, it's one long paid holiday, Terry!

The DWP and my private pension provider keep thrusting money into my hot, sweaty hand for spending my days walking my dog, playing my guitars and mandolin (still not as well as I'd like), drinking tea, eating scones, occasionally flicking a duster around and pushing the Dyson up and down, sitting in Costa Coffee with a nice skinny latte watching the world go by, and loads of other stuff. 😎

Best job I've ever had, by a lot!👍

... and tennis. In my student days, 1952-55, I used to watch Wimbledon pretty well right thru in the Long Vacation: something I missed grievously when I had to work & couldn't get to the telly while Wimbers was on. Being able to watch as much of Grand Slam, and other, tennis tournaments as I want once again has been one of the blessings of retirement.

Not much of a tennis man, Michael, not since the arrival of plastic racquets. Can't do with the interminable baseline rallies and the grunting and screaming.

But, chacun a son gout as they say at Roland Garros (and apologies for the missing acute and circumflex - HTML defeats me!).

The weed be good ONLY if it really is medical weed, Dan. Beware of the snake oil salesmen. Three docs told me it would be good for me but NOT under the Health Canada "rules" as they exist. So, I suffer but I agree with my docs... the way it works now is just not right... big money talks even when people like me and FAR worse off suffer. I guess I'll just have to wait and hope on accounta I ain't takin the shit the big drug companies are pushin now.

I am a registered pharmacist here in New Zealand. This year, at the age of 72, I have decided that when my license to kill runs out, in March 2016, I am not going to renew it.

Freedom!!!

I intend to find other stuff to do. I still have my yacht, so can sail the Pacific Ocean, the Cook Strait and the Tasman Sea, which I intend to do before it all gets too much.

I *will* learn all the chords to "You Got a Friend" and play it all through at least once without looking at the chart.

I will try other things, too. Not bunjy jumping (I flew hang gliders for many years and regard it as a waste of time). Kite surfing, maybe. Or just having fun. Tramping the trails. Cruising - the Missus will like that! Or whatever.

Have fun, OldDude! I'm right behind ya!

Mind you,

a) I only watch it for the grunting..

b) I'm the worlds leading expert for two weeks then ignore tennis for the next 50 weeks, like most tennis fans in The UK.

I don't have a say in this thread though, having given up retirement for the blessed rat race. I missed interfering if truth be known.
