I'm seeing online that Glenn Frey passed on Monday, January 18th, 2016. I'd heard he was sick but I don't know the cause of death yet.

According to the BBC website Glenn died of complications arising from rheumatoid arthritis, colitis and pneumonia.
The Eagle has flown. Another great loss to the world of popular music.

This last couple of weeks have been wretched for losing huge talents way too young.

RIP Glenn Frey
So much talent has disappeared in 2016, and we're not at the end of January yet.

Sad to hear. The early Eagles (before hard rocker Joe Walsh replaced bluegrasser Bernie Leadon) were a big influence during my own early picking days.

Hi

Sad to hear - I saw them live a few times. Talented band.

Not a great start to 2016.

Mike

I was surprised a few years ago to find out that the band considered their name to be "Eagles" not "THE Eagles".

I only saw them once but it was the original lineup with Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner. Don Felder wasn't a member of the band yet but he was called up on stage and player a few number with them. Felder was playing with the opening act and for the life of me I can't remember who that was.

Certainly all their albums "apart from a couple of compilations brought out after they originally split" state the band's name as "Eagles" with no "the" to be seen.

It would be awkward to call them that in a thread title. It's a distracting, petty quibble, IMO.

I only saw them once, on the Hell Freezes Over tour, RFK Stadium in Washington DC. Cheryl Crow opened, and the people I went with didn't care about seeing her so much. I did, but we still mostly heard her on the way in. We had balcony seats, and were on the left side (stage right). They kicked into Hotel California for their first number, and the floor of the balcony was bouncing up and down with people rocking out. So good.

Frey also showed up once in a while on TV. I remember he was on Miami Vice, but he'd pop up elsewhere.

Personally, I'm fine with no musical heroes of anyone dying for the rest of 2016.
