In music class in the Pennsylvania school I attended in the mid-1950s we used two hard-bound songbooks of a series. Can anybody help? -Joe- |

The books were metallic colors, with the titles embossed instead of printed. I looked through one that was silver and one that was kind of bronze, but didn't find the song. Anybody have the gold one? -Joe- |
29 Jan 16 - 01:51 PM (#3769155) Subject: RE: Lyr Req:All day across the blue the caravans go by From: GUEST,# I'd suggest a Google of Silver Burdett Music Hour series and search images. Maybe something there will ring a bell for the OP. There are many pics of books with the Music Hour title by Silver Burdett. I have found zero on the lyrics. Incidentally, in the event it confuses anyone's searching, gold-coloured may also mean copper-coloured. |

I didn't come up with any of the metallic-covered Music Hour books - since there's no printing on the covers (titles are embossed, not printed), maybe they don't come up in photographs. I'll email cetmst - his school songbook collection is even more extensive than mine. -Joe- |

Many time, school songbooks have songs not found anywhere else - which is why they don't always show up online. I prefer school songbooks that teach songs that are an important part of our culture - and most of them do a pretty good job of that. -Joe- |

The school I attended was Wrightsville public school in York County. I found images of the books Joe suggested and agree that they would be good candidates. I think the books I recall probably had embossed titles as the images show, and what I called gold may have been copper or bronze. Bear in mind that it's been 60 years since I have handled them. I can see that it would be good if I knew the title of the song, but I don't. I do see a song called "Clouds" is several S-B indexes. I wonder if that could be it. LWY |
30 Jan 16 - 05:01 PM (#3769452) Subject: ADD: Clouds (Christina Rossetti) From: Joe Offer Aw, I thought we had something, LWY, but it's not this "Clouds." This one is from Music Now and Long Ago the 1956 Silver Burdett third-grade songbook. CLOUDS (poem by Christina Rossetti, music by Hoagy Carmichael) White sheep, white sheep, High on a windy hill, When the wind stops, You all stand still. When the wind blows, You walk away slow. Oh, white sheep, white sheep, Where did you go? Nice song, though... The same song is in the fourth grade book of the Silver Burdett Centennial Edition. |

I too am unable to find this on the internet. I cannot attach a music file here but should anyone wish to contact me by email I will try, the problem is that this file is 5:54 minutes and you'd have to suffer through another couple of numbers - Thou That Are So Fair & Bright - Ave Verum and at the end Hallelujah Hope this helps. I'm a bit foggy on the lyrics but I could sing them if pressed. haha kellytwo@telus.net |

I have been searching for it as well. It was one of the Glee Club songs we sang in the 50s and 60s. Some of the printed sheets may still be stored at the school I attended. I live in the same town and will do some checking. Thanks so much for posting, otherwise my searches for bits of the song I could remember had failed. |
