I have song fragment and the google didn't help me, can y'all?

Been a runner for a thousand years
Been a thousand years since i've seen the land
Since I held your hand
Been a sailor for a thousand years
Been a thousand years since I've seen the sea
Since you saw me

And I will not fade away
And I will not fade away
And I will not, I will not
Walk away

Been a fisherman all these years
...

Aha

Been a fisherman all these years
Taken all these years for me to see
What was true to me

then the imagery changes

Thanks! I am remembering more and more of the lyrics, but who are they?

Then music.

Help all you Brits!

And as the years grow colder
Well, those letters you read
Are getting older
By the day
And as the years grow longer
Your voice in my head
Is getting further
And further away

OK, I have remembered all the lyrics. This has turned into a Who Is This Song By thread.

I haven't found anything either. I think it may require someone who's heard the song and recognizes it.

Sigh. It's kind of rock-and-roll-y folksy bluesy, the rest of the album I liked much less except for a couple of songs later (probably one was #9, don't know why #9 tends to be best on an album, see Enjoy Every Sandwich), and it's the other songs I'm trying to get back to in my brain.

The way I got to this one was rediscovering the album that had been on the other side of the tape, and re-hearing the last one on that album brought the first one on the flip side back to mind...

I want an Inside Out experience where I can just go through my memories. I *know* it's in there somewhere.

Plus, the lyrics I've posted are probably full of mondegreens. The title of the thread itself may be misleading.

A naive suggestion - and one you may have tried already: can you remember any of the other stuff on the album, perhaps more clearly?

If you can find the album, then the search for the song might be easier. But you've probably gone that route...

If you've got most of the words now could you post them in one block?

How about recording an mp3 or YouTube even just humming the tune?

Could you find any rock or c&w forums to ask on?

And as Megan said, a date.

It was a band rather than a solo?

US or English?

FOR 1000 YEARS
(by Sea Stories)

I've been a sailor for a thousand years
Been a thousand years since I've seen the land
Since I held your hand
I've been a miner for a thousand years
Been a thousand years since I smelled the sea
Since you saw me

And I will not fade away
And I will not blow away
And I will not
I will not
Walk away

You've been a fisherman all these years
It's taken all these years for you to see
What was clear to me
You've always been a hero of mine
Always wrote the words that made me feel
Sublime

And I will not fade away
And I will not blow away
And I will not
I will not
Walk away

And as the years grow colder
Well those letters you sent
Are getting older
By the day
And as the years grow longer
Your voice in my head
Is getting further
And further away

And I will not fade away
And I will not blow away
And I will not
I will not
Walk away

#, I am in awe! I bow at your feet!

I've closed Mrr's Stumped thread to avoid the confusion caused by bifurcating this discussion.

(The reason there were two threads is that, when the Lyr Req failed (which astounded me) I posed the Stumped challenge on the theory that *that* would bring some diggers out of the woodwork... and it worked, I *love* this place!)

And I was right about the mondegreen, too - miner, runner. He's deeper underground than my imagery, when he's ashore.

Weird how I had the sense that the imagery changed before remembering the lyrics with the different imagery, too!

For lyrics of music, at least... you should see the lacunae, otherwise!

(Or is that oxymoronic?)

OK, I have checked with my Aussie relatives, and THEY have never heard of this album or band. And they did research.

I am becoming more and more impressed that *I* once owned this record, even if it was on cassette tape.

I may need to reconnect with Sean Haugh, the North Carolinian libertarian, who gave it to me way back when I stood up for him at his wedding.
