Can you identify this song?-Rubenstein Remembers

I'm not giving you much to go on, but I'm trying to recall a song that I've heard that talks about two (old?) men playing chess in a park (Central?) somewhere.

I think that one or both are Jewish and the song mentions his name (Mr????????.
It's quite slow and reflective.

That's about all I can remember.

Grateful for any leads.

regards

K/van

When I read your post I immediately thought of this - but there's no chess in it. I'll think again ...

Old Friends, Paul Simon, 1968

Old friends
Old friends
Sat on their park bench
Like bookends
A newspaper blown through the grass
Falls on the round toes
Of the high shoes
Of the old friends

Old friends
Winter companions
The old men
Lost in their overcoats
Waiting for the sunset
The sounds of the city
Sifting through the trees
Settle like dust
On the shoulders
Of the old friends

Can you imagine us years from today
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange to be seventy

Old friends
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fear...

Try Rubenstein Remembers, by Ewen Carruthers:
There's an old man in the park
Sometimes sits till after dark
Old men often don't say much
Rubenstein is just one such
No chess, though.

I think this or something very similar was mentioned on Mudcat within the past two years.

That's the one!!! Thank you.

I couldn't search for it because I couldn't even remember the name 'Rubenstein'

Thank you very much.

I'd heard it and something in your post made me think I knew it and dig.

Thanks for the link BW. A very poignant and moving song by a wonderful songwriter.
Still miss him but thankfully we have the photographs and memories (sounds like a Jack Hudson song!) and of course Ewen's CDs and videos.

Allan Taylor sang it but it was Ewan that wrote it

Yep.EWEN wrote it. Mr Taylor sang it and for some reason re-wrote one of the verses.
