14 Mar 16 - 11:23 AM (#3778782) Subject: Cornell Recording Society 1950s folk From: Thomas Stern The CORNELL RECORDING SOCIETY produced a handful of releases of 1950's Cornell Univ. Student folk performers (most notable is a 10" LP by Ellen Stekert who became an important folklorist). CRS also produced annual discs of the Cornell Glee Club, other more "pop" recordings, and a classical disc. Below is a list of those folk related releases I am aware of. If anyone knows of others, please let us know. I'm also interested in their classical productions. Would also like to know something about CRS - was it run by Cornell University, or privately, who were the principals, what years was it active, is it still operating, did they choose performers, or did the artists hire them to produce their record, etc. ?? The title is "S' wonderful" The voice of Edé Stewart, and its number is CRS-10140. The songs are: Little girl blue/Dancing on the ceiling/My funny Valentine/Almost like being in love/It could happen to you//But not for me/I hadn't anyone before you/S' wonderful/Foggy day/I get a kick out of you/I don't know why. Total of 11 tracks. The combo backing her is led by Fred Abraham (vibes), plus Charlie Delgado (piano) and Chuck Chellman (bass). The notes on the cover tell that Edé was from Ithaca and presumably studied at the Cornell University, at least she had an audition and also recorded there. "The recording was done in the Kimball Room of Willard Straight Hall on the Cornell campus." I'd like to have some kind of a biography of Edé, cause nothing is found from the net. Please, you older collectors, anything is welcomed! |
