Peter Green & Friends (updates welcome)

There are so many Mudcat members who respect and value Peter Green, and I can't find any mention on this forum of how he is doing since he broke up with the Splinter Group and Nigel Watson.

That was roughly ten years ago. Never did hear the outcome of what seemed to be a hearing, was it civil or criminal? Something about a gag order.

I knew he was performing with people though. So in looking around I found what calls itself the only official site for info; it isn't a full-fledged website, it is a Facebook page.

Personnel identified as:
Peter Green: lead vocals/lead guitar/harp
Mike Dodd: vocals/rhythm guitar
Geraint Watkins: keyboard/organ/vocals
Matt Radford: double bass
Andrew Flude: drums/vocals
Martin Winning: tenor sax

Latest entry dated November 27, 2015, with a photograph of Green, guitar strapped on, in what looks like a recording studio.

Also don't see anything at Mudcat about "The Authorised Biography." More than one edition exists; one was published before 2000, the latest edition published in 2003. I believe I looked at both. The author/editor is Martin "Jet Martin" Celmins. Maybe I ought to start a thread reviewing that book.

Anyone else read it besides me?

News reached me at the BBC that Peters' mental disturbance returned and he was too ill to tour.

The Facebook page for Peter Green and Friends appears to have been set up in 2009. Then there are posts regarding performances in 2009 and 2010.

A complete hiatus of posts for a period of five years.

Then, last year:
"Peter is very well and sends you all best wishes."
-- dated July 8, 2015

A series of photographs follow, up to November.

There seems to be a pattern, since Peter Green, with some difficulty, found some autonomy following the death of his very elderly father, and put some distance between his surviving relatives and himself.

He makes music with other musicians for a time, then he has to step back and be out of the public eye before he can resume.

There was a hiatus of a few years between the Nigel Watson/Splinter Group period, and the Peter Green and Friends tour. Then the P G & F appearances stopped, and five years of quiet and privacy followed.

Now, if the Facebook page is anything to go by, Mike Dodd and Peter Green are preparing to re-emerge. May as well keep expectations low and even, and watch what happens.

Regarding the legal falling-out between Peter Green and Nigel Watson, which resulted in Green leaving the Splinter Group: the attorneys were very active in getting online forums (fora?) to delete entire threads discussing the conflict, for instance the forum at the big website for Fleetwood Mac. What remains is a statement agreed to by both sides and approved by the judge.

According to the Les Paul Forum Peter Green thread, it reads:
"In High Court proceedings, an interim injunction has been obtained by guitarist Peter Green against Mr. Nigel Watson, a member of the Peter Green Splinter Group, which forbids Mr. Watson from using violence, threatening or harassing Mr. Green or encouraging anyone else to do so; and from contacting Mr. Green except through his Solicitors. Mr. Watson disputes the proceedings and contests Mr. Green's claim."

The preceding statement also appears on the forums at the Fleetwood Mac site, with a little more information:

The statement was signed by the Honourable Mr. Justice Newman in the High Court of Justice Queen's Bench Division, dated April 2, 2004.

This court-approved press release part of the contact made to the website forums by the solicitors for Peter Green, identified as The Simkins Partnership.

The above was posted to The Ledge, the name of these forums, in a post dated July 21, 2005.

At the Facebook page for Peter Green and Friends, someone has posted a recording, in the form of a YouTube video with still photos. The recording is from Peter Green's sojourn, it says, at a kibbutz in Israel; he went into a studio with a bunch of local musicians. The instrumental lasts for some eight minutes, I listened to maybe half of it: a slow blues, during which the other musicians stay out of Green's way and let him take the floor. There is a title like "The Woman on the Beach," but that's what the track sounds like.
