BS: Procrastinators have their good points

talk on TED.com

apparently there is a sweet spot between planners who have it all scheduled now and crammers who spend too much time with the Instant Gratification Monkey

Something about allowing space for ideas to develop in your head. And years I was told of a huge company that always wanted to be second to market with an idea, one assumes they wanted to see where the mistakes were made and make fewer of them themselves.

I was going to post this a day or two back but - you know - Farcebook, and the Irish session in the ...................... Ooh look what's on TV !

I'll think about all this and get back to you later. I have some shopping to put off.

If I wait a few days before posting to this thread, there's a reasonable chance someone else will say roughly what I was going to say, thus saving me the effort.

Procrastination is the thief of time, I always say.

I may call the authorities and report him... or not.

I was being serious but what the hell:

Did you hear about some Spanish trying to translate their text into Irish and they had trouble with the word manyana because they couldn't find an Irish word that had quite the same urgency!

Not quite the same thing, but, Unpreparedness is the key to flexibility.

Always put off until tomorrow what you realise that what you put off yesterday until today was never going to put you off putting things off. That's my philosophy and I might get around to living by it sometime. Put kettle on love and mash a tea bag for me.

Very appropriate, and if you listen to the video, that is one of the tenets.

One good reason to procrastinate is that circumstances may change between now and a deadline. A good example is the change in circumstances produced by one's own death. If I have a month before something has to be done, why should I do it today when I might die tomorrow, in which case it's no longer my problem?

what about all that reincarnation business...
do you have to come back to Earth at regular intervals over the eons to set deadlines...
or does the cosmos give you a bit of leeway if you oversleep or get a bit distracted and lose track of time pottering about in the spirit world.. ???

I don't believe in reincarnation. I didn't believe in it last time, either.

I look at all these home improvement and House building programs on TV where they construct an entire house inside 4 months and compare it to the seven years that we have spent changing and adjusting the layout of ours.
We would not have had anything like such a useful room layout if we had not waited and done things slowly changing our minds and inventing new bits.

Sort of sums up the advantage, though I think the timescale echoes Robert Louis Stevenson -
"Little do ye know your own blessedness; for to travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive, and the true success is to labour."

Which in finding that quotation was not the case, it took a lot of internet prodding to prove it wasn't Oscar Wilde (as I imagined). I wonder if my memory banks (Wilde stub) have re-booted.
