It is 80 pages long. 19 Burns songs have been arranged for guitar and voice in full notation format. Most have been re-arranged for guitar and flute/ recorder. Notes on the life and music of Burns, including Burn in Edinburgh. Guitar and ukulele chord diagrams are also provided. I'm waiting to hear the whole album Andrew Calhoun was working on, where he researched what tunes were originally intended for the songs. Interesting to know if all of them were singable, as I recall Jean Redpath mentioning some tunes Burns used were better suited to fiddle or bagpipe, as "you would need that 'third lung' under your arm." I do love the Burns, but as I can't do a creditable Scottish accent as Andrew can, I can nae do the Scots vernacular to make the rhymes where necessary. Joanne in Cleveland |

Ae Fond Kiss. For Auld Lang Syne, I place both versions next to each other for reasons of comparison. I terms of singing, some were originally pitched very high, so I chose keys for my book that would suit most singers. This may be because in the 1700s-1800s, there was no standard pitch and instruments tuned a tone or so lower. |
