There's a B.o.t.L. song that I have heard that I can't find. "The very next night we spent on board, I spent it with my Nancy. And you may be sure and very sure that well she pleased my fancy."

Here we go from memory... I am a rambling Irish man
In Ulster I was born in
And manys the happy Hour I spent
On the banks of sweet lough Erin

But to live poor I could not endure
Like others of my station
To Amerikay I sailed away
ANd left this Irish nation
Right taun ten tin aur, taun ten tin aur, Right taun tin ten oaur in tin andy

The very first night I slept on board
I dreamt about my nancy
I drempt I held her in my arms
and right well she pleased my fancy
But when I awoke out of my dreams
and found my bosum empty
You may be sure and very sure,
That i lay discontented Right taun etc

We finally cam eto the other side
We were both stout and health
we cast our anchor in the bay
Going down to Philladelphee
So let ever lad link with his lass
Blue jacket and white trousers
and let every lass link with her lad
blue petty coats and white flounces right etc.

That is how I sing it, however, off the top of my head, am I leaving out a verce about the passage over? Ill check and get back to you. Larry

The missing verse is:

The night before I went away
I spent it with my darling
From three o'clock in the afternoon
Till the break of day next morning
But when that we were going to part
We linked in each others' arms
And you may be sure and very sure
It wounded both our charms.

There's a very similar version on the database (plus tune), here: RAMBLING IRISHMAN

Dick Gaughan, a former member of Boys of the Lough, sings a version of that on HANDFUL OF EARTH called Lough Erne.

Thanks for the missing verse, typing is a quite different experience than singing. one of my favorite songs. If any one runs into Cathal McConnel, over there in Edenburgh, give him my best, Larry in New York, the ex-currach builder.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly elf,
and Spaw laughed when he saw him
in spite of the Americans with disabilities act...
