Gosh, I didn't know she'd been ill. What a star. A great Lancastrian too.

Sad, sad news. Her death will sadden so many people.

Condolences to her family.

I hope that they can take some consolation from the happiness and laughter that she brought to so many lives.

BBC radio4 'pm' news programme just played out with the whole of "Let's Do It" followed by the 'Big Ben' chimes.

I suddenly feel quite sad.
Loss of a great talent.

RIP lass, what a wonderful woman she was, gifted, articulate and very clever, yet so modest.

I think she'll be missed and fondly so, it is fitting.

Just looking stuff up, Steve. Not only a Lancashire lass but from Prestwich. Went to Bury grammar.

Victoria was at Birmingham University during the years I was there.
The university website says she graduated in 1974 with a BA in Drama,
although I feel it was possibly slightly later.

She turned up at the university folk club, introduced herself as Victoria and did an amazingly witty song on electric piano as one of the floor spots. If 1974, the MC would have been Andy Thompson (Mech Eng) who I last saw dancing with the Rumworth Morris at Sidmouth, or Dave Barker or Graham Clark if the following year.

She did one appearance with us, was roundly applauded and never came back! Next I knew, she was on the telly!

(Another alumnus from that time was Mick Frost (aka Major Mustard of Travelling Punch & Judy fame), although our paths only crossed at the Old Crown FC and never at the university club.)

Victoria was a wonderful performer who will only entertain us with televisual re-runs of past performances. It was a great pity (to me) I never got to know her but for her one fleeting appearance one night in 1974/5.

Valerie & I had the privilege of seeing her perform live once, as part of an official Cambridge Festival which I was reviewing. A most entertaining performer with a marvellous knack of audience rapport. She has died absurdly young, and will be much missed.

Two of her songs sung at our local folk club last night - Let's Do It and Things Would Never Have Worked. Splendid stuff.
