It is a "tip off" to those "within the circle" that police, cops, fuzz, busters of frolicking good times, are in the area. In other words, "dump your vessel," "secure your beer," "stash your stuff." 15 to 250 adults might be present, and the tune stretches out over the congregation, some in harmony most not. Mouth to mouth, lip to lip, the chorus resounds across the entire group....perhaps, they have been witnessing a "tea bag." A disorderly crowd of "imbibers" is quickly transformed into a religious gathering of worshipers. The public is happy, the police are happy, and.... Sincerely, Gargoyle Kumbaya continues to resound across the globe. |

I still think it lovely to hear informal and untrained voices raised together to sing this and other songs for which simply harmonies naturally arise, with simple, longing lyrics, around a campfire. But I'm just an ignorant, hick, hillbilly. |

It is true of food. It is true of everything. You reach saturation point, and then you just aren't interested anymore. I never really sang Kumbaya, but I was aware that other people were singing it here and there. It's been made a joke in recent years by various people who want to ridicule various other people, so I doubt that many people will still be singing it. |

I am just jane public I don't have fancy notions of what I should be listening to I hear something and either like it or don't. I can understand you could become a bit jaded if you play something every day but that does not give folk the right to make a fool of something or someone for liking it there is a good reason why certain songs or tunes become popular they evoke emotion they are easy to join in with so you feel part of it and they are a pleasure to listen to. |

Like I don't care for "We Shall Overcome". And I've seen very little of "The Sound Of Music", or "Mary Poppins", or even "Gone With The Wind" - for the same reason. Just not my taste. Nothing wrong with, or weird about folks who like these things - I'm just not one of them. And I'm sure some of the things I do like are not to other peoples' tastes! |
