Don't know if I'd do very well at transcribing the song, but here's a recording of "Funky in the Country":

HOMEMADE MUSIC
(Bob Gibson)

Homemade music, sweet and clear
Couple of chords, easy to hear
Couple of friends, couple of beers
I'd love to fill my ears with homemade music.

Homemade music, just for fun
Bring it with you, honey, when you come
We've got room for everyone
That's the one for me, that homemade music

The mandolin is ching-ching-chingin' chime
The mouthharp player's playin' so sublime
The big old bass is boom-boom-boomin' out the bottom line
The guitar picker's pickin' that old Martin mighty fine

Free and easy, fast or slow
Hold it in, then let it go
Here she comes, there she blows
Don't you know for me it's homemade music

Daylight's breaking, one more song
I guess it's time that we move along
Wake the kids, head for home
I could go on and on with homemade music

From: Jason Xion Wang

I'm not very sure if chords are what Bob used, but they sound proper to my ears.

          D       D/C          D/B             A
There's an army of children who gathered in the night.
    D                D/C                   D/B            A
They are your sons and daughters who've been wounded by the light.
    G       G/F# Em      G    A
They rise up angry singing this song,
             G       G/F#    Em       G   A
Called, "How Long Can This Go On And On And On?"

         Am                           F#7
It's the peaceful one inside us whose time it is to die.
Bm                                    G
Words are words and guns are guns and children cry.
         Em                            A
Will you give us just one reason to survive?
Em                            A
Give us just one reason to survive!

       Am                           E
Are you just a little numb, for it's gone on for so long?
       G                            Bm
Can you still feel the pain as they engrave your name again?
       F                                  Am
On the weapons that they choose, what the hell is left to lose?
                C                      E                Am   G   F   D
'Cause when your back's against the wall, you're bound to fall!

This song was written as a tribute to Phil Ochs

Just listened again; this time it should be accurate...

A song dedicated to Phil Ochs, as sung by Bob Gibson and Anne Hills.

ARMY OF CHILDREN
(Bob Gibson; Irma Brown)

          D       D/C          D/B             A
There's an army of children who gathered in the night.
    D                D/C                   D/B            A
They are your sons and daughters who've been wounded by the light.
    G       G/F# Em      G    A
They rise up angry singing this song,
             G       G/F#    Em       G   A
Called, "How Long Can This Go On And On And On?"

         Am                           F#
It's the peaceful one inside us whose time it is to die.
Bm                                    G
Words are words and guns are guns and children cry.
         Em                            A
Will you give us just one reason to survive?
G       G/F#    Em       G A
Give us just one reason to survive!

       Am                           E
Are you just a little numb, for it's gone on for so long?
       C                            B7
Can you still feel the pain as they engrave your name again?
       F                                  Am
On the weapons that they choose, what the hell is left to lose?
                C                      E                Am   G   F
'Cause when your back's against the wall, you're bound to fall!

You ask me why the river's running blood red to the sea.
It's because your sons and daughters don't know anymore than me.
But why the bombs still come screaming down and fall?
Why the bombs still come screaming down at all?

It's the peaceful one inside us whose time it is to die.
Words are words and guns are guns and children cry.
Will you give us just one reason to survive?
Give us just one reason to survive!

Are you just a little numb, 'cause it's gone on for so long?
Can you still feel the pain as they engrave your name again?
On the weapons that they make, what the hell is left to take?
'Cause when your back's against the wall, you're bound to fall!

There's an army of children who gathered in the night.
They are your sons and daughters who've been wounded by the light.
They rise up angry singing this song,
Called, "How Long Can This Go On And On And On?"
How long can this go on and on and on?

My transcription. Note that a couple of phrases are missing where I found the words unintelligible.

FUNKY IN THE COUNTRY
As sung by Bob Gibson on "Funky in the Country" 1974.

Walk about a mile with Joey, Ted, and Mickey.
Barefoot gravel's gettin' kinda tricky.
Blowed my nose on the windy bit o' shirt tip.
Goin' back home; it's funky in the country.

Have an afternoon o' sunshine.
Skip a rock, maybe kick a tin can.
Set the sinker on a trot-line.
We'll have a time.

Wadin' in the water, playin' by the creek-side,
Tryin' to catch a crawdad, smoke a little grapevine.
Wonder where my dog went; supper's comin' soon...
… out here; it's funky in the country.

Can't take the hustle in the city.
Too fast, i gotta get a slowdown.
Out where it's peaceful an' it's pretty
Suits me just fine.

Chop a little stove-wood, stack it on the woodpile,
Baitin' up a trot-line, tryin' to catch a bullhead,
Jumpin out the hayloft, landin' on a haystack,
It blows my mind.

The sun is sinkin' on the hillside.
They're horseshoe pitchin' in the backyard.
Maybe sip a little moonshine,
White lightnin' time.

"Honey," lover's callin', "supper's on the table."
Later on the front porch rockin' in the glider,
We agree that we love it in the country.
It's lovely, lovin' in the country.

Have an afternoon o' sunshine,
Skip a rock, maybe kick a tin-can,
Set the sinker on a trot-line.
We'll have a time.

Walk about a mile with Joey, Ted, and Mickey.
Barefoot gravel's gettin' kinda tricky.
Blowed my nose on the windy bit o' shirt tip.
Goin' back home where it's funky in the country.
Goin' back home where it's funky in the country.
Goin' back home where it's funky in the country.

[Note: a few other people have recorded songs called FUNKY IN THE COUNTRY, but the ones I listened to were not the same song at all.]

Thanks very much for adding the lyrics to Funky in the Country, Jim! Glenn Yarbrough did a great folk-rock version on Glenn Yarbrough and the Havenstock River Band album, and yes... It's this Bob Gibson song.

Guess the two unintelligible lines could be:

Wonder where my dog went; supper's comin' sundown.
Love it out here where it's funky in the country.
