Lyr/Creativity Req: More verses to Mairi

I'm singing Mairi's Wedding as the recessional at a wedding on Sunday. I'm wondering if anyone has written extra verses to the song, or found extras that other folks have written. I want to leave out one of the originals, as this is a mature, second wedding, and the "plenty bonnie bairns as weel" line might elicit a few giggles. However, I'm worried we won't have enough verses for everyone to recess.

OR

is anyone inspired to write some (KATTHATMEANSYOUYOUBEAUTIFULWOMAN)?

Emily, darlin, I will have to give it some thought, thanks for the mention.*BG* Can you provide a little more relevant data about the couple that might help in choosing what they should have "plenty" of, leaving out the bairns, of course? And, I'll bet someone else already has some extra verses they will post for you. Sounds like fun!

ooo, tall order... i just met them a short while ago. hm. they run an antique shop with espresso counter and twice-monthly musical jam; they own a sheltie/german shepherd cross named merlin that they would like to continue breeding "down" (i made the mistake of telling the bride i had a female sheltie and her eyes flew open and she said "is she cut?!?"); they're honeymooning at some very nice sounding bed and breakfast; their names are deborah and courtland (she can go by debbie but not deb, he can go by court or cl); he plays guitar, i don't think she plays an instrument... there, that's everything i know.

is there any poetry in that?

Ahem--

Step it gaily now we know
Court and Deb a-rovin' go
With guitar and dog in tow
All from their lovely wedding

Never fear they will return
When the moon falls on the fern
To brew the coffee, raise the morn
All for their merry wedding.

Best I can offer on short notice...good luck!

On their CD 'High Ground' the McCalmans sing a parody called 'Cancel Mairi's Wedding'. I realise, however, that the wedding Emily is going to may not be quite the right occasion for it ... - Susanne

I think I've posted this before - but what the hey. About 20 years ago, my friends Robin and Kathy were getting married. I sang it Kathy's wedding of course. I had had a joke with Robin for many years. When I would see him, I would say in my best WC Fields voice "Ah a robin, the first sing of spring!"

So at their wedding I sang "Now we see the sign of spring We see the Robin on the wing Let us all join hands and sing All for Kathy's wedding"

Neither one of them noticed.

Plenty custom in the shop, Plenty coffee in the cup, Plenty bonnie sheltie pups That's the toast for Debbie.

There's plenty of poetry in that, emily, I just can't get it together in my head; too busy and too tired, this week, I guess. Lots of good stuff from others! MY dawg's name is Merlyn, but he gets called Merlee for short. He's a border collie with no cojones.**BG** luvyaKat
