I am pleased (and relieved) to announce that the poetry collection I've been working on for two years, is now available, in print and for sale, at Lulu.com (Two of the thirty poems can be found here, at the Mudcat Poetry Corner):

The Monsters' Rhapsody: Disability, Culture, and Identity

If all goes well, I expect the book will also be available at Amazon, B&N, etc., in 6-8 weeks (but you get a 20% discount at Lulu). And you can also order it by ISBN at any brick and mortar store which has a contract with the Print-on-Demand printer Ingram.

ISBN:         978-1-365-21201-7

Thank you, Dean.

I hope the book gives you half as much fun reading it as I had writing it.

(Also, I published it under a Creative Commons, attribution, share-alike, non-commercial license, so... you know, if you want to adapt and recite any of the pieces within at a MudGather, be my guest!

I've also set up a blog at Wordpress, dedicated to books from "my publishing house" (legally, Lulu.com is my publisher, but they require authors to come up with their own Publisher name and contacts, so they don't have to field correspondence from my readers), and my first post is now up (my plan is to have a short post a week, primarily focusing on background for my work.

The first post is about why I chose the publishing name I did: Aesop: Legendary Voice of the Voiceless.

Enjoy!

Also, the link in my opening post goes to the U.S. storefront. But if you click the little circle with the flag, you can choose to shop from a different country: UK, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, Australia, and Ireland.

Because it's print-on-demand, the book is printed after you order it, in a place that's regional to you, to keep shipping costs (and times) low.

But, no matter where you're buying from, the url in the link above remains the same -- I checked.

...The wonders of the Internet!

It took a few days to arrive. Then it took a few days before I got settled down with it.

Guys...

Get one.

For the sake of the joy of beautifully expressive poetry.

For the sake of the good it will do for you heart.

            Dean.

Thank you, Dean!

I'm so glad my poetry touched you so deeply.

And I've just had an hour-long session with a home-visiting physical therapist, who, though she sincerely means well, exudes an aura of "We need to make you less of a monster, Girl!"

So I'm glad my message of "monster pride" resonated. I needed that, right now.

Huh! Apparently, my book is now available for sale at Amazon.

Here's the link to its page on the Amazon page for the U.S.

(but you get a 20% discount buying from Lulu).

Yay! ?!?!?!

I thought Lulu was going to inform me via email when/if Amazon accepted it (and I wasn't expecting that for another month or so). But I only found out just now when I checked to see if any new books had sold.

Still, not going to gripe, though, as my newest sale is from Amazon.uk (I wonder if it's someone I know… I wonder which would make me happier: a friend bought it, or a stranger bought it?).

Also, if you do buy it through Amazon (and if you have the spoons/ability), could you do me a solid, and post a review? I think Amazon is now a stickler for only accepting reviews for books sold through their site, though.

I'm not looking for this book to make me rich and famous (oh, gawds, especially not famous), but I would like to contribute my voice to a wider cultural discussion of ableism and its injuries, and getting people to buy this book is the most immediate way for me to do that. And letting people know they're not the first to take a chance on it is really helpful in that regard.

Thanks!

Dean -- thank you so much for the review on the Lulu site.

BTW, I'm currently climbing the learning curve to adapt the book into a e-book format (something akin to scaling the Matterhorn, if you ask me; e-readers don't like poetry, it seems).

But when it's done, I'll have a new opportunity to write an "About this Book" blurb"... Any suggestions?
