From: GUEST,Lizzie Cornish 1 Just thought I'd ask, as there's a big push on Twitter now to raise awareness of this subject. I've found the old Radio Ballads, but obviously, that's about the strike, not the stolen pensions... Ballad of The Miners' Strike Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Lizzie |

From: GUEST,Lizzie Cornish 1 "What a difference that money would make To this man in the valley of death As he coughs up his lungs in this hospital Gasping for every last breath From the dust he brought up from the coalface And he's carried this last thirty years What a difference that money could make To them sat by his bedside in tears I know that you think that we're beaten That there's just not enough of us left But if you're going to punish us to our graves Then we'll fight you til our last breath It's not like we're asking for favours We just want back what was put in Did you blow it all bailing out bankers Then kick us while thinking win-win? Well guess what? We're back and we're coming I know all you see is old men But proud and unbowed and unbeaten The Miners are marching again We're the past back to fight for the future Adding our voice to the cries Demanding much more from our leaders Than thieving, corruption and lies And I know that you think that we're beaten That there's just not enough of us left But if you're going to punish us to our graves Then we'll fight you til our last breath" Taken from here: https://joesolopoems.wordpress.com/2016/09/14/archies-song/ |

From: GUEST,Lizzie Cornish 1 Petition to get their pensions back: Petition to get their pensions back "Archie Paton, a former Miner, messaged me from his hospital bed last week to say he wanted to speak about ideas he had for fighting the Miners Pension scandal. Sadly, I was told yesterday that Archie had died. Severely ill and in hospital Archies thoughts remained on helping his friends and comrades obtain Justice. We are losing 8,000 of these brave men every year, please remember the sacrifices that Archie and his comrades have made for this country by coming to the Miners rally in Liverpool on 27 September. RIP Archie" - Peter Stefanovic Peter's page - Miners' Rally on 27th September, 12 noon, Derby Square, Liverpool Miners' Rally on 27th September |

Those who were already retired when money stopped pouring into the fund (mass pit closures) are few and far between now and to my knowledge, I was far from unique in transferring my pot to a private scheme when I left the pit. In fact, very very few did keep it in there. The biggest scandal, if you want a cross to carry, were the unscrupulous investment advisors who got huge percentages promising my colleagues to invest in their schemes and even screwing people with pension mortgages. I shopped around and did better but many didn't. That's the real scandal - the money younger ex miners took out by bad advice into low yield private plans. This issue regarding the MPS is slightly more complicated than the headline poorly worded petition. Doesn't mean the government have the moral upper hand, only that it is easy to dismiss petitions that don't point to the facts. A missed opportunity. |
