BS: Exceptions to the rule

Subject: BS: Exceptions to the rule
From: Donuel

The exception to the rule is usually someone who does not know the rules like Donald.

Biology- a science of exceptions

"Nature provides exceptions to every rule."
To every rule there is an exception—and an idiot ready to demonstrate it.

"If you are not an exception, try to be the example.

"There can be no justice so long as law is absolute. Even life itself is an excercise in exceptions."
"When has justice ever been as simple as a rule-book?"
"A shrink once told me that an exception is a resentment waiting to be born."

"By the deficits we may know the talents, by the exceptions we may know the rules, by studying pathology we may construct a model of health."

Be the exception, and be happy.

Look for the exception to the rule and you will find it.

Something remarkable , new, exceptional and noteworthy
is too often your own idea, except when someone else thinks of it first.

If there was an exception, it would not be a rule. The correct phrasing should be "The exception that disproves the rule."

You are right Rap. It is 'proves' in the sense of 'puts to the test'. The proverb in modern terminology is better rendered as 'it is the exceptional that proves the rule reliable or not"

Wiki says the explanation I gave is considered false by some sources. Of course that suggests some don't.

Anyway, the wiki page is worth a read.

Rap

"The exception [that] proves the rule" is a saying whose meaning has been interpreted or misinterpreted in various ways. Its true, or at least original, meaning is that the presence of an exception applying to a specific case establishes ("proves") that a general rule exists.

In the Talmud there are 613 commandments/rules. There are about the same number of exceptions.

1% Rule: The Golden rule, he with all the gold rules.

"The Golden Rule is that there are no Golden Rules" - George Bernard Shaw.
And he was truly exceptional.

I don't have ulterior motives, axes to grind, set ups and agendas for everything

however

it sure the heck feels like a year of exceptions, besides masters like you and Rap have the talent to take these things to new insights, heights or depths. Even our current understanding of the universe requires our dispensing with logic and making exceptions for the rational.
