04 Dec 16 - 03:52 PM (#3824468) Subject: The Crypt Folk Club and the old woman singer From: GUEST,Nick Dow The crypt Folk Club in St.Martins in the Fields Trafalgar square used to be run by the Rev. Ron Swan in the 1970's. It was run to benefit the homeless. I caught the end of the film Darling (Julie Christie 1965) and there was the old beggar woman singing Santa Lucia, in Piccadilly circus. She was classically trained and used to come down to the Crypt folk club and sing Danny Boy. Once she had a wonderful voice. The booze and sleeping rough must have seen her off years ago, however I am ashamed to say I can't even remember her name. Does anybody remember the club, and the old girl singing? There but for fortune etc. etc. |

I have no idea if the story is true (before my time), but it was always said that she dueted with Paul Simon at another well known London folk club at Bunjies. |
