BS: A Good Year for Everyone

2016 is almost over. 2017 is making it's way around the globe. This hasd been a miserable year for me, and a good many other people. So I'm not sorry to see the last of it, and hoping next year will be better for everyone.....
Except of course Donald Trump.

The fireworks have been and gone this end and there's a thousand years of history drowned in my whisky glass.

However, I can vouch for all that history. Saw it in a book on a shelf in a bookshop...😂😂😂

And we've had Seasick Steve on telly. Woohoo!

no great expectations for 2017.. would be nice to get to 2018 in no worse shape than yesterday...

my 60th will be in 2019... so looking forward to a real usa made les paul and no arthritis in my fingers..
that would not be too much to ask of life...???

be even better if my mum is still with us to celebrate the hours she spent agonizing waiting for my little handsome head to pop out...

We had a wonderful New Year celebration at Camp New Harmony in Northern California. Lots of music and dancing. Here in the U.S., we had a wonderful President for all of 2016, and he's still President for two more weeks. I hope the future isn't as bad as it appears it will be.
Have a good year, everyone!

Well I think this has been a very good year for world politics.

It has been proved to the millions of voiceless and hopeless people left behind by globalism that they CAN fight and win against the establishment elite, that they don't have to put up with endless wars and military interventions, that socially the conservative view of family and social order can be regained, that the media is not cuddly friendly, but a real and present enemy of the people which decided to go "post truth" years ago.

Happy new year.

I doubt that you will find many here who agree with you, ake - but happy new year anyhow.

Drink to that one Joe - this year certainly has brought some of them our of their closets though
As for New Year
Here's to those who love us
And here's to those who don't love us.
But may the Lord hobble the legs of those who don't love us so we can hear them coming

Well that's something we can agree on Joe :0) but it doesn't make me wrong. I have always fought against elitism, whereas most here are part of the club.

Correction on that Norfolk Toast
Here's to those who love us and to those who don't love us
To those who don't love us, may God turn their hears
If he don't turn their hearts, may he turn their ankle bones so we know the buggers when they walk

2016 was a bit if a trial. I had to withdraw from my hard-fought for PhD due to issues with the specimen I was working on that meant I was unable to continue; my supervisor has left the university and our research group decimated. Now, after three years hard work this is was a disaster and I've lost an opportunity that a lad with three 'O' levels that was destined for factory work in Birmingham never thought he'd have.

However, it's all been beyond my control so onwards I go, I'm not giving up yet! In the great scheme of things, and compared to some of the situations other catters and folk in the wider world face it's small potatoes.

I hope 2017 is peaceful and kind to you and yours. Take care of yourselves.

Happy New Year everyone!

Love,

Stu

"A good year for everyone".....do we really understand what that means?   Do we REALLY care?

For the past twenty years I have travelled regularly within the most depressed areas of Glasgow and East Renfrewshire.....they are desolate places, 80% unemployment in some areas, one, perhaps two generations with no hope, no jobs, no motivation, drug addiction is everywhere it has become a fact of life for these young people. It persists simply because there is nothing else....they have been written off by society. To make matters worse, many young people no longer bother to apply for the derisory benefits on offer and rely on the proceeds of criminality to survive. I have spoken to these people, seen how they "live", They are far removed from the thoughts of the "liberal academic elite" and its core values of "diversity freedom and financial aspiration".......I think it will be a very long time and will require a re-evaluation of how we run our society before these folks enjoy a "good year"

Our year started off as usual, crooked politicians and greedy bankers - mid year it went downhill with a rise of the right in Britain who won the fears and insecurity of the people and decided on fortress Britain - disclaiming all humanity and responsibility for the world wide chaos and bloodshed their Government had caused.
And then Trump - a scumbag misogynist, racist loutish Billionaire fascist who has been at war with the people of this county, trying to privatise a beach for the exclusive use of his golf club - WAS ELECTED INTO THE WHITE HOUSE (God help us all).
Things can only get better - surely, but with five States in Europe targeted by the Ultra Right, we can only hope common sense prevails and turns the tables.
Sorry to pass on my pessimism, but as a supporter raised the Lord Mayor of Trumpington, I felt it apposite to do so.
Perhaps we should take this elsewhere.

Happy new year, its only 60 days to the ancient Roman new year.
RIP Father Mulkayhe. Check out the Atlas Obscura for your travel plans. There are a lot more 'new' and wondrous things other than Tr.

I don't think the arbitrary assignment of January First as the first day of the year is of any special significance. I also don't think the fact that "Donald Trump", "resignation", and "impeachment" each has eleven letters is of any special significance, though I'd like to think so.

And so, as Tiny Tim said, "A Merry Christmas to us all; God bless us, every one!"

Not much has changed since those words were written and 2016 was the crappiest year I have ever encountered in terms of political developments and people shuffling off this mortal coil.

May 2017 get better and may those on here who support the politics of hate get some compassion.

Whoever you are, Happy New Year :-)

Cheers

You won't get help from God. In the words of Beethoven, O man, help yourself.

And he didn't mean that in the Tory way!

Well, I certainly wish everyone a happy new year, one without sickness or sorrow. Knowing that is unrealistic, though, I also wish everyone the ability to cope with whatever 2017 throws at you.
