13 Feb 17 - 04:25 PM (#3838734) Subject: February Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess The February Shanty, Forebitter and Foc's'le Ballad Session will be this Saturday, February 18, 2017, from 3:30 to 7:30 PM at The Press Room on Daniel Street in Portsmouth, NH. We were foiled in December by the slippery weather and had to shut down early at January's session so, I don't know about you, but I'm itchy to sing sea songs this Saturday! Especially since the white stuff outside just keeps piling up. (What was that silly thing I uttered about it being a "normal" winter?!? Spoke too soon!) Just checked AccuWeather and it looks like this snowy spell should break by Friday -- Saturday looks clear. Come join us for the shanty sing on Saturday! Live, participatory music -- especially singing with friends! -- makes the world a better place and us more healthy. Linn |

18 Feb 17 - 01:08 PM (#3839773) Subject: RE: February Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Charlie won't be there -- things to do in the wake of his mother's passing. But...we'll have at least two new people joining us, a young couple who discovered the session last night. Jake is stationed in Portsmouth with the Coast Guard and sings very, very well. And his wife Stephanie -- he proposed to her on the USCGC Eagle. And I'm pretty sure Gina and Bill Dunlap will be there up from Connecticut. Come on down (or up) -- raise a pint and the rafters! 18 Feb 17 - 08:51 PM (#3839840) Subject: RE: February Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Didn't have a huge turnout right away but more people arrived as the evening progressed. But the volume was high right from the get go. The jazz had ended slightly early so by the time I got there they were already packing up. I sat at the booth across from where we set up and was joined early by the Dunlaps. Had a very interesting conversation with two people already sitting at that two table booth -- I had said something about having been a typesetter (or, as I in later career more accurately started calling myself, a digital prepress production tech)so we compared notes on our experiences. And while I'm currently more in proofreading and copyediting, he's currently correcting 45's grammar and spelling mistakes on Twitter. I hope he emails me and tells me what he's calling himself. Sounds like a full time job to me... I'll post the usual wrap up tomorrow. Linn |
