I caught the fiddle & guitar quartet called Celtic Fiddle Festival at the Ropetackle in Shoreham-by-Sea last night - and what a night it was. Three superb fiddlers: Christian Lemaitre from Brittany, Kevin Burke from Ireland and Charlie McKerron from Scotland - plus Breton guitarist Nicolas Quémener - played superbly. Thoroughly recommended. Future UK dates:

18-Feb Maidenhead – Norden Farm Centre for the Arts
19-Feb Bury St Edmunds – The Apex https://www.theapex.co.uk/…/eve…/3083/celtic-fiddle-festival
20-Feb Newcastle-under-Lyme – New Vic Theatre
21-Feb Cardiff – St Davids Hall http://www.stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk/…/celtic-fiddle-fest
22-Feb Runcorn – The Brindley https://tickets.thebrindley.org.uk/…/celtic%20fiddle%2…/info
23-Feb Gateshead – The Sage http://www.sagegateshead.com/e…/celtic-fiddle-festival43010/
25-Feb Hailsham – The Pavilion http://www.pavilionhailsham.co.uk/liveevents.html

If you go to their website, you can check out the US tour dates which follow on from the UK.

I love those guys but Quémener and McKerron are new names to me. I see they're playing in my hometown in April which unfortunately is about 1,200 miles north of here. If you bump into them, Will please mention that it's generally in the 70's here in February in SWFL with light breezes and bikini-clad maidens flitting about everywhere.

Mmm... I'll just get my guitar packed and ready to go...

They really belong in the "godawful band names" thread - something like BLMQ would have been a lot better.

McKerron is terrific, I've only heard small snippets of Burke and the others not at all.

Maybe (under a different name) they might try to get a booking at the Edinburgh Fiddle Festival in November, since they're not comng to Scotland this time? McKerron and Burke have probably played there before.

The name is weird - Kevin Burke explained its origin during the concert.

Twenty-five years ago, Kevin was playing in the US with John Cunningham, and their agent suggested that they get a third fiddler to join them - in came Christian Lemaitre from Brittany. When they discussed the question of a name with their agent, he suggested "Celtic Fiddle Festival", as it was just a one-off tour... Twenty-five years later, they' still touring, with Charlie McKerron in place of Cunningham.

And, yes, Charlie was absolutely superb. Among the various CD merchandise on offer, Christian Lemaitre was selling his book+CD called, "Suites bretonnes pour violin solo", a slim but very interesting volume. I indulged in a copy and will be spending the next few days translating it from French into English and transcribing the pieces, as far as possible, into tenor guitar (CGDA) fingering.

Thanks for posting this.

I had seen it listed but thought it would be local 'stars' and schoolchildren and not quite worth the drive.
