Howard Glasser, founder of the EISTEDDFOD festival, renowned artist,
and teacher.

Very sad news - Howard has had some severe respiratory and other health related problems this week. Last night he experienced
extreme difficulty breathing, was admitted the Charleton
Hospital (Fall River). This afternoon he has been transferred
to the Hospice unit, and is receiving palliative care. Carole and Michelle are overseeing this stage.
Say prayers, good thoughts for Howard.

Thomas.

Sorry to hear this. I loved the Eisteddfod, and was always glad to see and talk with Howard. Thanks for the information, sad as it is.

Word is that Howard left us this morning. I'm not competent enough to write an obituary, but will pass on what I can.

I DID find this link to the Howard T. Glasser Archives of Folk Music and Letter Arts

Here is a bio at UMass Dartmouth.

Howard Glasser quietly passed away this morning in the wee hours, 4:20am, simply and without fanfare. As James Joyce wrote: He lived and laughed and loved and left.
For now, I am without words. If you like, you can listen to the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards-Lament for Kinlochmoidart-Piobaireachd.which Carole and I played at 4:25am this morning.
love, Michelle

PS I will posting tributes some of you have sent on the blog: https://howardupdates.wordpress.com/. If you would like me to post something in his honor, please email me. And I will send an email with further details of his memorial and burial.

I miss our early morning talks at Indian Neck. I think I did a rubbing of Professor Child's grave for him...I certainly hope I did.

What a lovely, knowledgeable, gentle man.

I have just found a copy of Howard's wonderful handwritten diary entry of his visit to Ullapool in 1960. This he sent my husband Arthur Argo and myself in 1970. I had every intention of trying to contact him and was sad to hear of his death. I believe he also designed a poster for Arthur's concert at the Carnegie Institute when Arthur visited the USA. My memory of the times he stayed with us in Scotland are warm. He was a charismatic person whom I remember with affection.
