Hi all,

Does anybody know of any sessions in Purbeck, or further afield in Dorset?

I'll be there around the August bank holiday.

Thanks!

Max

Try the Acoustic Calendar for Wessex, www.sanchobramble.weebly.com

The August diary won't be published until the end of July but the current one (June) will give you an idea of what's each day of the month.

Purbeck Valley Folk Festival is on 24th - 27th August, near Corfe Castle.

I've never been to it, but I've heard good reports from people that have.

Thanks everyone for your replies
I saw that Purbeck folk festival was on but I'm looking for something smaller and low-key. I wonder if pub sessions spring up in the towns around this festival?
Also thanks for the acoustic calendar, I will look for that in July.
Best

As we get closer to the bank holiday weekend, has anybody heard any murmurings of small/local sessions around Purbeck folk festival?
Thanks

why not ask at the festival facebook page, Catherine Burke does a lot of the organising - she will know.

Jerry Bird gives a number of sessions - open mikes etc, in the "Dorchester Voice"

yes tuesday night at Tom Browns in Dorchester is Jerry's thing. he also does something at the Blue Raddle - but that's more like monthly.

it would help if we knew what you wanted to do. if you want to sing songs,   play tunes or do both. there are session opportunities for all three locally, and I'm sure Catherine will be providing session opportunities of all sorts at her festival.

Oh, neither really - although I do sing and my friends could join in on various instruments, I just want to be there.
I'm only around on the bank holiday weekend (Saturday to Monday). I found the festival a bit pricey and not especially interested in seeing the likes of Badly Drawn Boy. The smaller stages are no doubt where the real magic happens and I just wondered if people might get together informally in the towns around the festival.
Thanks, I'll check out the Facebook page.
